Weekend Preview

The wait is almost over, the $12.5 million guaranteed Sunday Million kicks off this weekend and it is not to be missed. While that tournament has garnered the attention of the poker community, it’s not the only massive event taking place this weekend.

14th Anniversary Edition of the Sunday Million at PokerStars

PokerStars is celebrating 14 years of the Sunday Million with its biggest-ever online poker tournament. A massive field of 62,500 is required in order for the highly ambitious guarantee to be reached.

Up to five re-entries are allowed during the late registration period in order to help that lofty total be reached. Late registration is open for a full 24-hours so you have plenty of time to either buy in direct for $215 or win your ticket via one of a plethora of satellites running at PokerStars.

Multi-table sit & go satellites start at a mere $0.90 with traditional satellites available from a still affordable $2.20.

A handful of Mega Sats have caught our eye. Some 250 Sunday Million seats are guaranteed in the $11 buy-in Mega Sat at 6:05 p.m. on March 21 with another 250 guaranteed at 3:05 p.m. on March 22. A couple of hours later, at 5:00 p.m. CET, there are an astonishing 500 seats waiting to be won.

PokerNews will keep a watchful eye over this three-day spectacular. Will it be you who walks away with one of the two seven-figure prizes that PokerStars guarantees will be won.

The GG Masters at GGPoker is Even Bigger; Now $400,000 Gtd

GGPoker has boosted the guarantee of its $150 buy-in GG Master to $400,000, meaning there are $100,000 more reasons why you need to play this tournament on March 22.

We’re big fans of the freezeout format of the GG Masters, especially in a world where re-entry tournaments dominate the landscape. Players can win their seat from $1.50 and don’t have to worry about elite professionals firing umpteen bullets in an attempt to negate the variance.

The Player of the Year race also stands out. Points are awarded each time you finish on the bubble or in the money. Even more points are given for reaching the final table, and more still go to the eventual champion.

Whoever finishes at the top of the leaderboard at the end of the year wins a $500,000 sponsorship package from GGPoker. Brazil’s Ricardo “M@cacoCidadao” Nascimento is the man to catch right now. The Brazilian won a GG Masters in January and reached the final table last week. He’s now got a lead of more than 250 points over his nearest rival, fellow Brazilian “XAMA”.

It literally pays to enter the GG Masters early because doing so gives you free bubble protection. Buy in before the tournament starts and you’ll receive your buy-in back in tournament dollars should you finish on the bubble. The number of players on the bubble changes depending on the total number of entrants, but it is usually four places based on the last few tournaments.

Last Chance To Reach Day 2 of the $1 Million SuperStorm at 888poker

March 22 is going to be a huge day for online poker with the partypoker POWERFEST in full swing, the $12.5 million Sunday Million, the $400,000 GG Masters, and also the $1,000,000 SuperStorm Main Event at 888poker.

This $100 buy-in tournament only has a handful of Day 1s remaining. These are played across March 20-21 with the final Day 2 starting at 5:30 p.m. on March 22. Make it through 11 20-minute levels (12-minutes on March 22) and you’ll be playing for a slice of at least $1 million.

$16.50 satellites are running right now if the $100 buy-in is a little out of your reach. The guarantee should be hit because, at time of writing, 7,910 players have bought in and 1,534 players have made it through. Good luck!
