2020 Irish Poker Open has been moved online.

The 2020 Irish Poker Open was one of the high profile casualties of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Last week, organizers pulled the plug on Europe’s longest-running poker festival, postponing it after advice and instruction from the Irish government.

Cue hundreds of disappointed poker players who had penciled in playing at the Irish Open in a few weeks time. That disappointment has turned to glee thanks to partypoker stepping in and offering to host an online edition of the 2020 Irish Open.

The 2020 Irish Open is now an online festival that runs at partypoker between April 6-12. The schedule is currently being revised because some of the original formats aren’t available at partypoker, but expect a bustling schedule with some pretty hefty guaranteed prize pools.

One event that’s sure to capture the attention of the poker community is the first-ever Irish Open Main Event Online.

€1 Million Guaranteed in the Irish Open Online Main Event

partypoker is running the Irish Open Main Event Online across multiple days and keeping the massive €1 million guaranteed prize pool. Expect a plethora of satellites feeding into this tournament, plus hundreds of partypoker players from around the world spending tournament dollars to enter it.

JP McCann from the Irish Open spoke of the decision to partner with partypoker for what is now an online festival:

“Since our announcement last week regarding the postponement of the Irish Open 2020, considerable efforts have been made to find an alternative date to run the Irish Open 2020. However, as the uncertainty surrounding live poker events continues, we feel that the best decision to take at this point is to cancel the live festival for 2020.

“We would like to thank partypoker for taking the initiative to help ensure Europe’s oldest-running poker festival goes ahead during these very challenging times. We hope to see you for the first time ever on the virtual tables for the 40th anniversary of the Irish Open.”

Tom Waters, the managing director for partypoker, said: “We are delighted to be associated with Europe’s oldest poker festival. The Irish Open is a truly unique event and following the disappointment of its cancellation this year, an online Irish Open festival looks a perfect fit for both event organizers and partypoker.”

The full schedule is currently being finalized and PokerNews will publish it as soon as it is made public.
