Joao Simao is enjoying a successful few weeks at the tables in the party POWERFEST

Up and Running in the POWERFEST

Simao made a blistering start to this year's partypoker POWERFEST, making two final tables on the very first Sunday of the festival.

"It's really good to have a good start," Simao told PokerNews. "It was especially good because it was a huge Sunday. It makes me very happy to open the partypoker lobby and see it full of players supporting the site."

POWERFEST #02-H: $100K Gtd 8-Max$1092nd $24,717
POWERFEST #09-HR: $100K Gtd PLO 6-Max PKO$2,1005th$7,444+$11,550

Simao says that the fields were tough and full of great players that "don't make mistakes very often."

Waking up on Tuesday the Brazilian, who has been a partypoker Team Pro since October 2016, said he was already excited to start playing more events.

"It felt great waking up after the weekend! The schedule is so varied, with many options including 6max, PKO, PLO and PLO8 meaning there are just so many attractive tournaments."

Looking for Title Number Ten

So far in his career, Simao has won nine POWERFEST titles and is naturally looking to reach double digits during this year's festival. So far he's been unlucky, while fellow Team Pros Anatoly Filatov and Joni Jouhkimainen have added new titles.

"I would love to see Roberto Romanello and Renato Nomura winning as well."

"I’m very happy to see both of those guys winning," Simao told PokerNews. "That being said, I would love to see Roberto Romanello and Renato Nomura winning as well. The truth is our team is very connected and supportive of each other. I have also played some tennis and other sports with them and there’s even more rivalry outside of poker!"

A Whole New Week of POWERFEST

The POWERFEST was meant to be winding down this weekend, but a whole extra week has been added by tournament organizers.

"partypoker have just announced that they are extending the series for another week so I will be checking the schedule as there will be lots more to look out for! There are a few things I’m looking forward to for the rest of this week. First of all I’m looking forward to the $5,200 #137-SHR Phase Final on Sunday. I love to play SHR and this phase model gives more people the chance to play for less.

"Also on Sunday the #142 PLO Main Events as I love to play PLO and I’m very happy to see how well they are doing in POWERFEST.

"To complete the list, I obviously can’t wait for the NLH Main Events also on Sunday, in particular the $320 and $2k buy-ins with $500k guaranteed in each. There is also smaller version with a $55 buy-in and $250k guaranteed. These are all amazing guarantees and it would be a special taste to win one.

Simao's POWERFEST Top Tip

Finally, what advice would Simao give anyone looking to play in the POWERFEST for the first time?

"If you are playing for your first time, understand that it’s a long grind, not a 100 metre sprint. Be patient, control your expectations so as to not become frustrated and most importantly, have fun!"
