MSPT Canterbury Park $300K GTD Main Event Kicks Off Tomorrow

The first of five Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) events at Canterbury Park in Season 11 kicks off tomorrow in Shakopee, Minnesota.
The $300,000 Guaranteed Main Event offers two starting flights beginning with Day 1a at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21 playing 15 levels. Day 1b will take place at the same time on Saturday, Feb. 22 and also play 15 levels. The surviving players from each flight will then return at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23 to play down to a winner.

Last February’s $1,100 Main Event at Canterbury Park saw 479 entrants take to the felt in search of a $99,573 first-place prize. After two days of play, it was Bemidji's Matt Kirby that recorded the victory, earning his record-tying third MSPT Main Event title, tying him with Carl Carodenuto and Blake Bohn for the most Main Event titles in tour history.
Most recently in December at Canterbury Park, the Season 10 Finale cruised by its $500K guarantee by attracting 802 entries, and after a long Day 2, it was Anthony Dunne coming out on top to capture a $155,288 first-place prize.

Regional Event on Deck
The MSPT is headed back to Grand Falls Casino in Larchwood, Iowa, located just outside Sioux Falls, South Dakota from March 4-8 for $360 buy-in, $50,000 GTD Regional Event (March 5-8).
The series will kick off with a $250 Tag Team tournament on Wednesday, March 4 followed by a MSPT $125 Seniors Championship (50+) on Thursday, March 5 at 10 a.m. and a $125 Turbo Deepstack where players will begin with 25,000 chips on Friday, March 6 at 10 a.m.
The $360 Regional Main Event will feature three starting flights beginning with Day 1a & Day 1b at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 5 and Friday, March 6. Day 1c will take place Saturday, March 7 at 2:30 p.m. All three days will play 15 levels. The surviving players from each flight will return 12 p.m. on Sunday, March 8 to play down to a winner.

MSPT Headed to Meskwaki
For the first of three appearances in Season 11, the MSPT is headed to Meskwaki Casino in Tama, Iowa with a series of satellites that will feed into the 25th MSPT Main Event ever held at the venue. The $1,100 buy-in, $300,000 guaranteed Main Event will run the weekend of March 20-22.

Back in March of 2019, the first MSPT Meskwaki of Season 10 drew 409 entries and saw Steve Federspiel of Tiffin, Iowa walk away with an $86,949 first-place -prize. Then, in July, Iowa’s Josh Meyer bested a 401-entry field to win the 2019 MSPT Iowa State Poker Championship. This past November, MSPT Hall of Famer Aaron Johnson defeated a 409-runner field to earn his first MSPT title and take home $86,951!
