James Romero wins partypoker LIVE MILLIONS South America Super High Roller

James Romero has won the partypoker MILLIONS South America $25,500 Super High Roller for $350,000 after overcoming a 35-player field.

This result comes only a month after a third-place finish in the partypoker MILLIONS UK Main Event for $420,000, and is his second-biggest winning cash to date.

He defeated Marty Mathis heads-up, with Mathis taking home $213,750. Mathis, who took down the partypoker MILLIONS South America Main Event last year, has now cashed for $1.1 million across the two events.

Final Day Action

According to the live updates, just 15 players returned for the final day's play, after the likes of Anthony Zinno, Freek Scholten, Kenny Hallaert, Lander Lijo and Pedro de Oliveira all bust on Day 1.

Mathis led from Romero at the start of the day, with Joao Simao and Dzmitry Urbanovich the last two remaining partypoker Team Pros in the field.

The final table of eight was reached roughly three hours into the day, after the likes of Leo Fernandez, Sergio Iralasky, and Rainer Kempe

partypoker Team Pro Simao just missed out on the final table, with his flopped pair losing out to the turned flush of Niall Farrell.

Fellow Team Pro Urbanovich was the next elimination after he ran into the kings of Jacob Daniels, and after Romero eliminated Roberto José Sagra, the bubble was reached.

Eventually, short-stacked Farrell got it in with pocket eights against the queen-ten of Daniels. A queen on the turn was enough to send the Scot on his way, guaranteeing the remaining five players $60,000.

There were doubles for Ivan Luca and Mathis before Francisco Benitez was eliminated in fifth place. Luca went next, taking home $100,000 before former chip leader Daniels went from hero to zero.

Despite around 50% of the chips in play at this point, both Mathis and Romero doubled through Daniels, and he was eliminated in third place for $150,000, good enough for the third-best cash of his career.

Romero held the chip lead, and the pair battled back and forth for just over an hour. Mathis found himself in the chip lead at one point, and could have won the tournament had he called with just a pair of eights after Romero over-bet shoved the river with just ace-high as a bluff.

Eventually, Romero's ace-ten beat the queen-jack of Mathis to secure victory along with the $350,000 and trophy that came with it!
