2018 Global Poker Awards ceremony at PokerGo Studio in Las Vegas

Tonight at 5 p.m. PT, the nominees for the 2019 Global Poker Awards will finally learn who emerges victorious in their respective categories. Maria Ho and Drea Renee will host the awards ceremony, which will be available to watch for free on PokerGO.

Among those to be honored are Poker Hall of Famer Johnny Chan, who will receive the Poker ICON award, and "Miami" John Cernuto, who becomes the second recipient of the Hendon Mob Award.

If you recall, PokerNews received three nominations across two categories: Media Content: Written and Media Content: Video.

Aleeyah Jadavji is co-nominated with photographer Hayley Hochstetler, for their touching piece on poker player and sarcoma-victim Kevin Roster is nominated in the first category. Roster competed at the 2019 World Series of Poker raising awareness of his battle with the illness before ultimately choosing to end his own life through California's 'death with dignity' laws.

Also nominated in that category is Paul Seaton's four-part series on The Hendon Mob, arguably one of the most famous groups of poker players in history.

Rounding out the trio of PokerNews nominees is photographer Anthony Abrego for his shot of Ryan Laplante deep in thought during the 2019 World Series of Poker.

Here we take a look at a few of the big stories from this year's nominees:

Joey Ingram

The Mike Postle scandal was arguably the story of the year, and it is the coverage of which that has helped net Joey Ingram for nominations in the Global Poker Awards. Not only is his “Investigating Mike Postle Hand Histories from Stones Live” up for Media Content: Video, but Ingram is also nominated in the Podcast category, Journalist of the Year and People’s Choice for Poker Personality.

Triton

Paul Phua is nominated in Industry Person of the Year, with Bryn Kenney's Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Montenegro win nominated in Final Table Performance.

It came as no surprise that the inaugural Triton Million for Charity was nominated in Event of the Year, with the final nomination coming in the People's Choice for Hand of the Year, with Sam Trickett's fold against Stephen Chidwick in the same event getting the nod.

The WSOP received a number of Global Poker Award nominations
