Charity Series of Poker (CSOP)

The first Charity Series of Poker (CSOP) event of the New Year will take place in Las Vegas on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at Palms Casino Resort.

The CSOP has partnered with the Tyler Robinson Foundation – the nonprofit organization of the GRAMMY® Award-winning band Imagine Dragons dedicated to supporting children battling childhood cancer – to host the “Slay Cancer with Poker” event. What's more, PokerNews can confirm that two members of the band — Ben McKee and Wayne Sermon — will not only be in attendance but also play in the event.

Charity Event Details

The “Slay Cancer with Poker” event will begin with an open bar reception and hors d’oeuvres at 3:30 p.m. PST. Beginning at 5:00 p.m. PST, a $300 buy-in charity poker tournament will take place at View Nightclub at Palms Casino Resort. The tournament, which has $100 rebuys and $100 add-ons, will award $1,000 cash bonuses to the player with the most rebuys and to the chip leader at the end of registration. Additionally, there will be bounty prizes, a silent auction, and 50/50 cash raffle drawing.

The winner of the tournament will walk away with a $10,000 seat into the 2020 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event.

Among those slated to attend are “Truth Be Told” star Mekhi Phifer and horror icon Kane Hodder. Comedian Joe Stapleton will emcee the charity poker tournament, while poker players like WSOP bracelet winner Chris “Fox” Wallace and CSOP founder Matt Stout will be in attendance.

All net proceeds from the event will benefit Tyler Robinson Foundation, which has raised more than $10 million to support families battling childhood cancer. More than 1,000 families have benefited from TRF support.

Players can get more information, pre-register online, donate, or bid on silent auction items from anywhere in the world at TRFCSOP.givesmart.com.

Additionally, PokerNews will be giving away a seat to the CSOP "Slay Cancer with Poker" event. Just listen to upcoming episodes of the PokerNews Podcast for your chance to win.

Q&A w/ CSOP Founder Matt Stout

Matt Stout, the founder and operator of the CSOP, recently spoke to PokerNews about the upcoming charity event.

PokerNews: How did the opportunity to work with TRF come about?

Stout: TRF donated tickets and a meet-and-greet with Imagine Dragons to our annual Three Square Food Bank event. I reached out to thank them for their generous support, and it led to a conversation about them hosting their own CSOP event. Now we're finally ready to team up and help the families of children battling cancer.

Will Imagine Dragons be in attendance?

"I reached out to thank them for their generous support, and it led to a conversation about them hosting their own CSOP event."

Stout: We haven't been able to confirm the Imagine Dragons availability yet, but there will definitely be surprise celebrity guests in attendance.

Why the Palms? How did that come about?

Stout: The Palms looks great after their recent remodel, and we'll be taking over the top three floors of the Fantasy Tower at Palms for the annual St. Jude event on April 4. Now it's looking like an attractive option for more CSOP events thanks to their generous charity discounts.

What sort of things can poker fans expect from the CSOP in 2020?

Stout: I recently moved into the office of Sofa King Creative with CSOP's new VP, Brian Kip, who's also the Managing Partner of SKGC. We're meeting with a lot of new prospective donors and beneficiaries and are really excited to take CSOP's model and replicate it to raise money for more and more great causes.
