WSOP Reworks WSOPE Schedule, Adds More Short Deck and 8-Game

Poker players who enjoy mixed games, short deck, or nosebleed no-limit who were waffling on whether to make the trip to World Series of Poker Europe may have just gotten the nudge they needed.
The WSOP added four more events to the schedule at King's Casino in Rozvadov, bringing the total to 15 bracelet events to be awarded. The new events skew heavily away from no-limit hold'em as only the €250,000 Super High Roller caters to those looking for traditional two-card action. Beyond that, there's a $2,500 Short Deck and a pair of 8-game events, one at $2,500 and one for $25,000.
“Coming off the success of the 50th Annual World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, we took another look at the initial WSOPE schedule and felt we could enhance it,” said WSOP Vice President Jack Effel in a Friday presser. “Leon [Tsoukernik] and his team have been great partners for WSOP Europe and while the dates of the 2019 event haven’t changed, we were able to find some room to add some exciting new events that will drive bigger prize pools and keep players busy.”
New Schedule
Originally just 10 events, the schedule has now been expanded by 50% with the two stages of new additions.
The overall balance has also been tilted away from heavily no-limit hold'em to almost an even split. No-limit hold'em occupied seven of the 10 spots on the originally released schedule. An initially added €25K Short Deck plus the newly released four events makes it just eight to seven in favor of no-limit, although the game figures prominently into several of the mixes.

Total guarantees amount to €22,472,450 according to the WSOP.
While a €250,000 buy-in will undoubtedly raise some eyebrows, the past couple of editions of WSOPE have demonstrated there's certainly a market for nosebleed action in Rozvadov. The €100K brought in 95 and 132 entries the past two years, respectively.
For those seeking smaller-stakes action, the WSOPE will be preceded by a WSOP Circuit series running Sept. 26 through Oct. 14 awarding 15 Circuit rings.
Player of the Year Ramifications
The additions to the schedule present a significant opportunity for those players looking to charge down the stretch and lock up WSOP Player of the Year honors.
Currently, 2019 double bracelet winner Robert Campbell tops the leaderboard, with Shaun Deeb, Daniel Negreanu, Dan Zack and $50,000 Poker Players Championship winner Phil Hui rounding out the top five.
Two years ago, Chris Ferguson closed hard with a bracelet win in Rozvadov to secure POY, and the opportunity to rack up points in Europe is now greater than ever before.
