2019 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure is Only a Month Away
It seems like only yesterday Maria Lampropulos was being crowned the 2018 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) Main Event champion in The Bahamas but the 2019 PCA is almost upon us with the first of 41 scheduled events shuffling up and dealing on Jan. 6.
With no rake charged and $9 million in contributed prizes, including $1 million added to first place, the PSPC is the shining jewel on the action-packed 2019 PCA schedule.
2019 PCA Schedule Highlights
The PokerNews Live Reporting team is set to bring you coverage from nine of the biggest and most eagerly anticipated events on the 2019 PCA schedule, including the $25,000 PokerStars NL Hold’em Players Championship (PSPC).
With no rake charged and $9 million in contributed prizes, including $1 million added to first place, the PSPC is the shining jewel on the action-packed 2019 PCA schedule. The field will be made up of keen recreational players and professional grinders alike thanks to the huge giveaways of Platinum Passes during the past 12-months. Maria Konnikova won the National Championship at the 2018 PCA, outlasting a field of 290 to get her hands on $84,600 and a $30,000 Platinum Pass, and becoming the first woman to win a Platinum Pass. Konnikova became a PokerStars Ambassador five months ago following an epic journey that saw her learning how to play poker while researching a book and ended with this PCA vicory.
You’ll have the chance to read about some of poker’s elite players as they compete in the $100,000 PCA Super High Roller between Jan. 10-12 before the $10,300 PCA Main Event begins on Jan. 11 and runs through Jan. 16.
Three more events will be covered by our team while the 2019 PCA Main Event is in full swing. There’s a $100,000 Single-Day High Roller, another $25,000 Single-Day High Roller, and the $25,000 PCA High Roller, the latter running from Jan. 14-16.
Some of the 2018 PCA Highlights
Last year’s $100,000 buy-in High Roller attracted 48 entries, meaning a $4,737,600 prize pool was created. Cary Katz got his hands on $1,492,340 of this huge sum after defeating Justin Bonomo heads-up; Bonomo collected $1,077,800 for his runner-up finish.
Steve O’Dwyer took down the $50,000 High Roller for $769,500 after sending Byron Kaverman to the rail in second place, which was hardly surprising given O’Dwyer's prior success in big buy-in events.
Argentina’s Maria Lampropulos is likely to be in The Bahamas as she attempts to defend her PCA Main Event title. Lampropulos came into the 2018 PCA Main Event on the back of some fantastic results, including winning the £1 million first-place prize at the partypoker MILLIONS UK Main Event. She went on to outlast 581 players in the 2018 PCA Main Event, including besting a final table housing the likes of Adrian Mateos, Koray Aldermir, and her heads-up opponent Shawn Buchanan to get her hands on the $1,081,100 top prize.
