Unibet Open Sinaia

Unibet Open is hitting the slopes for their first ever ski-edition that will take place at Sinaia ski resort in Romania from Feb. 12-18. In addition to ski and snowboarding fun, the festival offers a €1,100 Main Event, a €2,200 High Roller plus additional side events to be announced.

The event will be run in conjunction with PokerFest Romania, the same partner with whom they run the Unibet Open Bucharest festival. At the last Unibet Open Bucharest €1,100 Main Event, Russian player Anton Vinokurov bested a field of 592 to win the €103,060 top prize.

Known as the "Pearl of the Carpathian mountains," Sinaia is known as one of the most beautiful ski resorts in Romania and is also the closest ski resort to Bucharest. Located 77 miles north of the capital, the resort is a 1.5-hour ride away from the Bucharest airport. With 20 kilometers of slopes, five kilometers of ski routes and nine ski lifts, Sinaia has a wide range of slope offerings, and its altitude range of 880-2,103 meters ensures a healthy volume of snow.

The area is also home to famous villas, castles, promenades and parks, as well as plenty of attractive bars, restaurants and luxury shops. Some of the most famous tourist attractions to visit include Peles Castle, Pelisor Castle, the Sinaia Monastery, Sinaia Casino, two royal train stations, in addition to the Franz Joseph and Saint Anne Cliffs.

2019 Unibet Open Ski-Edition Schedule

The unique poker and ski festival includes six nights at the resort and includes one poker-free day that players can use to take advantage of the many attractions Sinaia has to offer. Each day of the Main Event begins at 3 p.m. to accommodate schedules of players who want to take to the slopes before hopping into the indoor poker action. Unibet players will also be treated to a Welcome Drinks Party and a Players Party as part of the Ski-edition experience.

The six-day festival begins with arrival of players on Tuesday, Feb. 12, followed by two days of starting flights for the Main Event. Day 2 will then take place Friday, Feb. 15, Day 3 on Feb. 16 and the event scheduled to wrap up on Sunday, Feb. 17.

The schedule for the €2,200 High Roller and other side events will be confirmed at a later date. Departure is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 18 with free shuttle transfers courtesy of Unibet Open available on the schedule arrival and departure dates. For those looking to get in on the poker action at a discount, online satellites for the event are running at Unibet now.

"The February festival in Sinaia will be exactly this: hot poker action in an old historical city and also one of the most renowned and splendid Romanian mountain resorts.”

Nataly Sopacuaperu, Unibet Open’s Head of Events and Sponsorship, said: “We are incredibly excited to be holding our first Unibet Open ski edition. Winter sports poker festivals have become incredibly popular in recent years and we are delighted to be able to be visiting beautiful Sinaia to launch our exciting Unibet Open 2019 schedule.”

PokerFest CEO Sorin Constantinescu added: “In the age of the fast low-cost travel, the picturesque tourist destinations are rapidly gathering ground over the big cities, when it comes to poker festivals. The players have learned that poker is not only a game of cards, but also an experience. And it is this very experience which is the job of us, the organizers, to make it as pleasant and momentous as possible. The February festival in Sinaia will be exactly this: hot poker action in an old historical city and also one of the most renowned and splendid Romanian mountain resorts.”
