Arlie Shaban Four Labors Away from $30K Platinum Pass

Back in September, Twitch poker streamer and Team RIU member Arlie Shaban was tasked with the 12 Labors of Arlie à la Hercules’ 12 labors. He promptly got to work, taking on "the Dutch Lion" Lex Veldhuis for his first challenge and going from there. During labor No. 3, he learned from PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu that he would be receiving a $30,000 Platinum Pass if he completed the 12 labors before year's end, and he pressed on.

PokerNews provided an update last month that included Shaban’s adventures through his fourth labor, which tasked him with spreading the word about his deeds. For that one, Shaban even appeared on the PokerNews Podcast, which you can check out here.

In the past several weeks, Shaban has conquered four more labors with just four more standing in the way of him and a Platinum Pass that will send him to The Bahamas to play in the biggest tournament of his life.

Recent Challenges

Labor Five

Shaban’s fifth labor was to “Get your s*** together,” and he called on Jaime Staples to help him accomplish the following:

  • Improve stream by adding start-countdown and break scene, improving the mic audio, get new sub emotes, alerts and badges and maybe even buy a stream deck for hotkeys
  • Improve branding with some element that will help distinguish him from other streamers
  • Improve his mindset, proving it with a video of ten clips where he experiences and overcomes a frustrating moment

He accomplished the feat, and his new stream gadgets and positive mindset are now on display each time Shaban streams.

Labor Six

Challenge six involved making an appearance on James Hartigan and Joe Stapleton’s PokerIntheEars Platinum Pass freeroll stream. Unbeknownst to Hartigan, Stapleton took requests via Twitter of challenges for Shaban to complete on stream.

Among the entertaining actions he completed were crowing like a cockerel, changing his shirt every few minutes, spinning in his chair 20 times, and even telling Hartigan about having seen him somewhere... a bit awkward to discuss.

A compilation of the amusing result can be viewed in the following clip.

Labor Seven

Shaban’s seventh labor took place during Jason Somerville’s Run It Up Reno event. His task was to capture poker’s most mythological creature, and if you were to do some brainstorming, Chris Moneymaker would probably make your list. The 2003 WSOP Main Event champ has attained a fabled position in the poker world, and Shaban teamed up with fellow reality TV star Tyson Apostol to capture the Cretan Bull — Moneymaker — in a mountain bike challenge.

You can hear Shaban talk about the experience that included some falls, a shiner, and getting to do a little project with a couple of his heroes.

Labor Eight

Shaban’s eighth challenge was based on Hercules’ labor of stealing the Mares of Diomedes – no small feat considering they were man-eating horses. In Shaban’s challenge, he had to steal a different kind of horse — and cash in a H.O.R.S.E tournament.

While it may not sound like much of a hurdle, Shaban had never played the mixed game before, and had just five days to lock up a cash in a H.O.R.S.E tournament. So he looked up the rules, set out on his mission, and cashed in the second H.O.R.S.E tournament that he played in.

Final Stretch

Shaban is now just four labors away from securing poker immortality that would send him to The Bahamas to compete in the $25,000 Poker Players NL Hold'em Championship (PSPC) in January.
