Thursday, Oct. 25 saw a mammoth 451 entries for Day 1a of the €1,000,000 Guaranteed Battle of Malta Main Event - a massive increase on last year’s 320 Day 1a entries.

Dutchman Alexander Koops is the chip leader at the end of Day 1a with 497,000 in chips. He, along with the 67 other Day 1a survivors, will be back for Day 2 on Sunday. Other Day 1a survivors include Espen Uhlen Jorstad, Ting Ho, and Clint Sammut. Players who fell by the Day 1a wayside, but could re-enter over the next two days, include Daragh Davey, Ivo Donev, Joe Grech, Sofia Lövgren, and Albert Sapiano.

The €550 NLH Main Event takes place over six days from Oct. 25-31, at the Intercontinental Hotel, hosted by Casino Malta. There are four start flights in total, including the turbo-format Day 1d due to start at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Unlimited re-entries are permitted up to Level 10 on each start day. The action ends on each starting day when the field has been reduced by 85 percent, with the remaining 15 percent of the players from each starting day picking up at least €500 and progressing to Day 2.

A feature table is being live-streamed throughout the tournament and the final table will live-streamed on Tuesday, Oct. 30 with hole cards. The full tournament schedule can be found here.

Just like all the MPN Poker Tour stops, there is much more than just the Main Event. Side events include the €110 Ladies Event at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, the €245 NLH Siege of Malta at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, and the €1,400 High Roller at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Also, the ever-popular Live Fish Party jackpot sit-and-go will be running in the MPNPT VIP Chill Out Room from Saturday, where beer and PlayStation games will also be available for those between-tournament moments.

A separate promotion is offering players the chance to simultaneously support a good cause, play a sit-and-go tournament against tennis legend Boris Becker, and potentially win a package to next year’s Battle of Malta. Tickets and more information for that promotion can be obtained from the dedicated desk in the lobby, with proceeds going to breast cancer awareness charity Pink October Malta.

Away from the tournament area, the entertainment continues with the MPNPT Players’ Welcome Party tonight at the Casino Malta, as well as a VIP area for MPN Poker Tour qualifiers at the official Battle of Malta party on Sunday night.

With bumper player numbers already and the very best of Malta’s nightlife right on the doorstep, MPNPT at the Battle of Malta is just getting started. Follow up on all the action every day from 1 p.m. local time on the MPNPT blog.
