Molly Bloom Confirmed to Attend Unibet Open Bucharest
The world-class skier turned “Poker Princess” – Molly Bloom – has been confirmed as the guest star of the upcoming Unibet Open Bucharest to take place from Aug. 2-5 at the JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel. The subject of the recent critically acclaimed, Oscar-nominated movie Molly’s Game will be hosting a press conference and book signing at the event, as well as introducing the cash games and #QueenRules Ladies Tournament Friday, Aug. 3.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to have secured Molly for our event," said Unibet Open’s Head of Events Nataly Sopacuaperu. "Molly’s Game has been highly rated by poker players for bringing the poker scene to life on screen and I’m especially pleased that Molly will be opening our #QueenRules Ladies event. This is a new variant of the game using a special deck in which the Queen outranks the King. It’s all part of our campaign to build conversations around gender bias and gender equality. We couldn’t have a more fitting participant than Molly Bloom who challenged stereotypes during her time as the Poker Princess.”
The event, run along with PokerFest Romania, will be Unibet’s third time heading to the Romanian capital. Last year’s €1,100 Main Event attracted over 500 runners to generate a prize pool of more than €500,000 and Marius Pertea claimed the €90,925 first-place prize. Traian Bostan bested 603 players in the 2016 edition to win €100,000, and both previous winners are expected in attendance in August.
In addition to Pertea, Bostan and Bloom, other notables confirmed to attend include Irish Open winner Ian Simpson, Ireland’s Dara O’Kearney and David Lappin, Espen Jorstad, Daiva Byrne, Rauno Tahvonen and two-time Unibet Open champion Dan Murariu.
Additional Events
Besides the Main Event, there will also be a two-day €2,200 High Roller, a €165 Monsterstack and the €330 DSO Cup, as well as other side events to include turbos and Progressive Knockout formats.
A special “Battle Royale” invitational freeroll will also take place, where Unibet’s sponsored eSports players will compete for a share of a €10,000 prize pool, the winner to take home €5,000. This marks the 10th edition of the Battle Royale. Most recently, Scott "Sco" McMillan, the leader of the eSports team Method, shipped the event in Malta in May.
Unibet Player of the Year Race
Players who participate in the Unibet Open Bucharest will also earn points toward the Unibet Player of the Year race that launched in London in February, with extra points awarded to those who cash, according to place of finish.
The hybrid live-online Player of the Year race will see the top four players from 2018 Unibet live events join the top four online players and the Unibet Deepstack Open leaderboard winner for a “Battle of the Champions” playoff. The winner of that event will be crowned Unibet Player of the Year.
Prizes for PoY finalists will include €2,000 Unibet Open packages and dozens of tickets for online satellites. Live players can earn points toward the race through Unibet Open Main Events as well as Main Events at the Unibet Poker Belgian Championship, the Unibet UK Poker Tour and the Unibet Romanian Poker Series.
Additional details on the event can be found at the Unibet Open website and fans can follow live streamed action from the event via Unibet’s Twitch Channel, with commentary from Unibet Ambassador David Vanderheyden and special guests.
