partypoker Announces 'Millions World' $25K, Rolls Out LIVE $$$
partypoker has announced a $25,000 buy-in “Millions World” tournament boasting a $10 million prize pool that will take place during the popular Caribbean Poker Party (CPP), where players can head to the Bahamas for poker and sun in November.
Sound familiar? The partypoker event news comes just months after competitor PokerStars dropped their version of a special Caribbean $25K – the PokerStars Players’ Championships (PSPC) to be held during the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA). The two events will be held in close proximity with Millions World going on Nov. 9-12 and the PSPC kicking off a week prior to the 2019 PCA that starts in early January.
Less than two months apart with the same buy-in and location — Nassau, Bahamas — the two events will be in competition, though plenty of players may make both trips.
“There are many coveted titles in poker, from the EPT and WPT Grand Final titles, to WSOP and WSOPE Main Event and Players Championship bracelets, and not forgetting our own MILLIONS Grand Final crown,” said partypoker LIVE president John Duthie.
“However, a $10,000,000 guaranteed, $25.5K buy-in tournament is just as important as any of those. We can’t wait to hand the trophy over to our first winner in November. Let’s hope it’s one of the 100+ online qualifiers partypoker will be sending, as that would be quite some story."
Bahamas High Rollers
The third edition of the CPP will move to the brand new Baha Mar Resort after being held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic for the first two. PokerStars’ PCA venue remains a few miles away at the Atlantis.
With PokerStars adding $8 million in value to the prize pool via $30,000 Platinum Passes and another $1 million added to first place, the PSPC stands to be the larger of the two high roller tournaments, though both will be distributing a prize pool over $10 million.
Expecting up to 500 entrants via direct buy-ins and satellite qualifiers to combine with around 300 Platinum Pass recipients would bring the PSPC prize pool up around $20 million to make it the largest $25K buy-in ever.
Like the PSPC, packages for the partypoker Millions World valued at $32,500 will be up for grabs through satellites, leaderboards and promotions to be announced.
partypoker LIVE $$$
In addition to their latest tournament news, partypoker has also rolled out the partypoker LIVE $$$ (PPL$$$), a feature that allows players on their site to use funds earned from satellites toward partypoker live events — for buy-ins or travel and expenses.
According to a recent blog post, “PPL$$$ has been created with players in mind and they give players the ultimate in flexibility when it comes to buying into any partypoker LIVE event.
“This new currency gives players the opportunity to play in some of the biggest branded events in global poker, including Millions, sponsored World Series of Poker (WSOP) festivals and the ever-popular Grand Prix tournaments.”
“This new currency gives players the opportunity to play in some of the biggest branded events in global poker."
partypoker has deliberately amped up their live tour in recent months, promising over $100 million in prize pool guarantees across their 2018 events. The newly announced Millions World will provide a healthy chunk of that guarantee.
Formerly called My PP LIVE $$$ when first announced back in November, the PPL$$$ is another move by partypoker to respond to player feedback and provide more choice for how to use satellite earnings.
“We’ve spent a lot of this year listening to players and one of the most common criticisms about the online to LIVE satellite route has always been getting locked into specific events when circumstances may change,” Duthie explained.
Players can use their PPL$$$ for any partypoker-sponsored live event at any time in the future, as the credits never expire. As an added incentive to get collecting some PPL$$$, the site is running a year-long leaderboard challenge that will award $1 million in PPL$$$ among the top 100 finishers, with a bonus $10,000 added for the overall winner.
