World Water Day Online Tournament

888poker and One Drop are joining forces to take the mission to provide sustainable access to safe water for impoverished populations throughout the world, according to a recent press release. The first-ever World Water Day Online Tournament will take place at 888poker on Thursday, March 22 at 8:00 p.m. GMT.

Not coincidentally, the event plays out on United Nations-sanctioned World Water Day, and what better time than to bring together generous players from the poker community to support the cause of promoting awareness and raising money for critical water issues that affect billions of people worldwide.

With an affordable buy-in of $11.11, pros and recreational players alike can join in the cause, while also getting to battle for a piece of a $5,000 prize pool. And thanks to the generosity of the hosts, 888poker will be donating all tournament fees to One Drop.

One Drop and Poker

The international non-profit organization, founded by poker aficionado and Cirque du Soleil creator Guy Laliberté, has had great success partnering with the poker community. Since partnering with the WSOP in 2012, One Drop and the poker world together have raised more than $20 million for safe water access initiatives, transforming the lives of more than 170,000 people living in vulnerable communities around the world.

“This will be One Drop’s first online poker tournament ever and we are confident that we have found another great ally in 888poker. We are excited with the idea of being able to reach out to their extensive community of online players to raise awareness and funds for critical water issues. We sincerely hope that this collaboration will be the first of many more to come,” said Alexandre Meunier, Senior Director of Special Initiatives at One Drop.

"We sincerely hope that this collaboration will be the first of many more to come."

One such member of the 888 community, Dominik Nitsche, won the WSOPE Rozvadov €111,111 High Roller for One Drop in November 2017 and has confirmed he will be playing in the $1 million buy-in WSOP Big One for One Drop this summer, where the entire $111,111 entry fee from all 48 players will go toward One Drop’s initiatives.

“Our new collaboration with One Drop is a great milestone for us here at 888poker. Supporting causes that improve the world we live in is an important part of our activities,” said Guy Cohen, SVP Head of B2C, 888 Holdings.

“We are excited to be able to offer our players the chance to contribute to those in need, along with exclusive access to the most sought-after events in the poker calendar.”
