Dusk Till Dawn to Brave the Cold for Charity
The action is always red hot whenever there is a poker festival at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham, but the casino’s staff will have to wrap up warm on Jan. 26 when they take part in Sleep Out Till Dawn.
DTD regularly donates to various local charities with Emmanuel House being a regular recipient of charitable donations. Emmanuel House Support Centre, founded in 1976, is a charity that supports homeless and vulnerable adults in and around Nottingham. The centre welcomes between 60-90 visitors each weekday and up to 50 every weekend, which equates to approximately 2,000 visits per month.
Sleep-Out Details
To help raise much-needed funds and awareness for Emmanuel House, DTD staff are set to put themselves in the shoes of Nottingham’s homeless by sleeping in the casino’s car park from 8:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. on Jan. 26.
Nottingham hasn’t been experiencing the best weather of late, with frequent rain and low night temperatures hovering around the one Celsius mark. Those taking part in Sleep Out Till Dawn have the luxury of sleeping bags and tents, a luxury that many of Nottingham’s homeless population can ill afford.
Nicola Veitch is one of the DTD staff braving the cold for a good cause. Veitch wrote on Facebook, “As many of you will already know, Dusk Till Dawn have supported Emmanuel House, a homeless shelter in Nottingham, for many years and the players have always been a fantastic support. This month, many DTD familiar faces, including myself, will be sleeping out for one night on January 26 to raise a little bit more money for a worthy cause. We are very fortunate in our life and want to give something back to those less fortunate.”
DTD hopes to raise at least £10,000 through Sleep Out Till Dawn and has set up a Just Giving page so well-wishers can make a donation. Just over £1,100 had been raised at time of writing. Anyone can donate via the Just Giving page. If you are a resident of the United Kingdom and are registered to pay tax to HMRC, the charity can claim an extra £0.25 for every £1 you donate thanks to Gift Aid.
There is a charity auction on the night prior to the sleepover with prizes donated by companies and entities such as:
- Notts County Football Club
- Frankie and Benny's
- Chiquitos
- Nottingham County Cricket Club
- Petals on the Moon
- Chelcie Forence Studios
- Eden Hall Spa
- Choices Health Club
- Sticks and Stones Landscaping Services
Head to the Just Giving page if you would like to make a monetary donation, visit the Emmanuel House website if you would like to learn more about the charity including how you can assist them, or contact a member of the Dusk Till Dawn team if you would like to get involved in the Sleep Out Till Dawn project.
