Sunday Briefing

This weekend’s PokerStars Sunday Million saw its buy-in halved to a more affordable $107.50, yet the guaranteed prize pool remained at $1 million. By the time late registration closed, 18,747 players and an additional 3,545 re-entries had created a prize pool weighing in at $2,229,200.

The tournament took 13 hours to whittle the huge field down to the final table of nine and a further two hours for those nine to be reduced to the last player standing. The champion turned out to be "Tomati25" who walked away with a cool $228,754 after a 121-hand heads-up battle with the United Kingdom’s "Duraircwb."

Tomati25 went into the heads-up battle with a commanding lead and turned down a potential deal early into the match. It looked like that plan was going to backfire because Duraircwb won the next 12 pots before claiming the lead for himself.

Eventually, after flopping the nuts with 98, Tomati25 retook the lead and when Duraircwb moved all-in for 20.4 million chips with 87, Tomati25 instantly called with AA. The five community cards fell 10A5102 and Tomati25 took down the PokerStars Sunday Million.
