Due to focussing its efforts on recreational poker players, Unibet Poker is not known for offering tournaments with large guarantees, but this fact changed on Jun. 11 when it ran a €50,000 guaranteed event for the first time.

Unibet Poker ran the €50,000 guaranteed tournament to help celebrate dealing 500 million real money hands and by the time late registration ended, the prize pool weighed in at an impressive €65,000, going to show there is a demand for this size tournament on Unibet Poker.

Unfortunately, a planned break failed to happen and that prevented players in the €50,000 guaranteed event from purchasing an add-on, otherwise, the prize pool could have swelled to €80,000 or more.

As a goodwill gesture, Unibet Poker quickly announced it was to refund the initial buy-in of €90+€10 to every player who was still in the tournament at the point of the add-on break who did not navigate their way through to the money places. A statement on Twitter read:

“We wanted to come in to let you know that we’ll be compensating players affected by this tomorrow. There should have been an add-on break which didn’t come in the €50K GTD ‘Half Billion’ (we’re looking into the reasons why now) and we’ll refund the initial buy in (€90+€10) to every player who was still in at the point of the add-on break who did not finish in the money.

“Apologies for this definitely takes the gloss off what was otherwise a really exciting tournament for us. Refunds will take place tomorrow once we get the full breakdown of players affected. Please don’t hesitate to contact us and we apologize for any inconvenience caused.”

It is a great gesture from the online poker site and one that was well-received by the player affected by the bug.
