2017 PokerStars SCOOP Day 12: Samuel '€urop€an' Vousden Wins €252K
One of Finland’s most talented poker tournament players excelled on Day 12 of the 2017 PokerStars Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) by outlasting a field of 259 entries in the SCOOP-41-H: $5,200 NLHE [8-Max].
Samuel “€urop€an” Vousden bested a star-studded final table to turn his $5,200 investment into a huge €252,525 prize, the third largest online score of his career and a result that pushed his lifetime online winnings past the $4.1 million barrier.

The 259 entries ensured the $1 million guaranteed prize pool was surpassed by $295,000 and the vast sum of money was distributed among the top 40 finishers.
Jonathan “OMGjonyctt” Concepcion was the unfortunate soul to burst the money bubble and it was his exit that locked up at least $7,446 for the final 40 players.
Helping themselves to some prize money from this SCOOP event were Joe “jcada99” Cada (36th for $7,446), Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree (33rd for $7,446), Brian “tsarrast” Rast (26th for $8,741), Michael “munchenHB” Telker (20th for $12,950) and JC “PrtyPsux” Alvarado (10th for $25,900).
Once the final table was set, the minimum anyone would walk away with was $32,375 but with more than a quarter of a million dollars awaiting the champion, nobody wanted to get their hands on the smaller amount.
Joao “IneedMassari” Simao was the first player to fall at the final table when his ace-jack proved no match for the pocket queens of Rocco “Sephirot88” Palumbo. Simao was joined on the sidelines by “luckyfish89” of the United Kingdom when Palumbo again found queens and they held against the Brit’s ace-king.
Sixth place went to the Russian high-stakes guru Vladimir “vovtroy” Troyanovskiy when his king-jack couldn’t come from behind to beat the dominating ace-jack in the hands of Jens “Jeans89” Kyllonen before Kyllonen lost a giant-sized pot to Dario “Secret_M0d3” Sammartino to leave himself with approximately 14 big blinds.
Kyllonen moved all in with a pair of black fours, “HealTheWorld” called with pocket queens, and the five community cards didn’t even give Kyllonen a glimpse of hope of surviving. He bust in fifth place.
Kyllonen’s executioner, HealTheWorld, was the next casualty of the final table, his ace-three losing out to the ace-nine of Sammartino. Heads-up was set when a short-stacked Palumbo moved all in from the small blind with king-five and Sammartino called with ace-four, winning the pot with ace-high.
Sammartino held an almost 2-to-1 chip lead over Vousden going into heads up and soon ground his Finnish opponent down to a level where it looked likely he would become the tournament’s champion. A run of hands in Vousden's favor, however, allowed him to capitalize on the momentum and take down the tournament.
The final hand took place during the 12,000/24,000/3,000a level. Vousden moved all in for 2.3 million and Sammartino called off his 280,000 stack. Sammartino held 9♠9♥. Vousden showed Q♠J♠. When the five community cards fell J♥4♦6♠4♣K♦ Vousden was the last player standing and he became the latest SCOOP champion.

Earlier on Day 12, Ognjen “psjebemvas” Sekularec of Serbia defeated Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo heads-up in SCOOP-40-H: $10,300 PLO Six-Max and banked a $386,400 score. ... “BlackFortuna” won the $1,050 buy-in medium edition of the same tournament for $109,528 after a three-way chop. ... Sixty-seven players remained at the end of Day 1 of SCOOP-43-H: $530 NLHE [Deep Stacks] and they will be lead back into battle by Alberto “bombuslol” Garcia as they fight for a $98,237 first place prize. ... Poland’s Norbert “wantme1234” Berent is the chip leader going into Day 2 of the SCOOP-44-H: $2,100 NLHE Progressive KO where $155,841 awaits the champion.
