Global Poker Index: Kenney, Petrangelo Keep Setting Pace
Each week, the Global Poker Index releases a list of the top tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes into account a player's results over six half-year periods. For a look at the entire list, visit the official GPI website. Here's a look at the rankings as of April 19.

There was no movement at all among the top eight spots in the 2017 Global Poker Index Player of the Year race since the last update, with Bryn Kenney continuing as leader for an 11th week in a row. Meanwhile Anthony Spinella inched up a spot to No. 9 and Darryll Fish did the same to move up to No. 10.
Looking down the POY list for more dramatic moves to report, Josias Santos went from No. 41 to No. 22 this week after picking up a couple of cashes at the ongoing World Series of Poker Circuit Cherokee series in North Carolina. And Mimi Luu jumped all of the way from No. 116 to No. 38 after her victory in the WPTDeepStacks Lincoln Main Event in California.

It's a similar story with the overall GPI rankings with the top seven players all remaining right where they were after the last update and Nick Petrangelo on top for a third week running.
At the bottom of the GPI Top 10, Adrian Mateos moved up a spot to No. 8, Dan Smith moved up two positions to No. 9, and Ankush Mandavia joined the list at No. 10.
Mandavia moved up from No. 14 after cashing in a Deepstack Extravaganza II event at the Venetian last week. The highest-career ranking for "pistons87" has been No. 6, achieved last month.

Nine players moved up to join the GPI Top 300 this week, with Upeshka De Silva the highest-ranked of this group after ascending from No. 310 to No. 251. A third-place finish in one of the side events at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown helped De Silva move back onto the list after just a one-week absence.
Indeed, all but one of these players have been ranked in the top 300 before, with Dani Stern (No. 298 this week) having the highest-previous ranking among them at No. 42 (in December 2016). Only Samuel Phillips is making a GPI Top 300 debut this week after having a successful visit to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino himself where he cashed three times and won an $1,100 NL event.

Matthew Wakeman was the biggest gainer among those in the current GPI Top 300, jumping from No. 366 to No. 285 after a couple of recent cashes in Macau including one in the PokerStars Championship Macau Main Event.
The others on this list — De Silva, Alexander Greenblatt, Faraz Jaka and David Jackson — all enjoyed tournament scores at the Seminole Hard Rock, with Greenblatt additionally cashing in that WPTDeepStacks event in Lincoln, CA.

Finally among players still ranked inside the top 300, Garrett Greer tumbled the furthest from a week ago after going from No. 125 to No. 196.
What to Expect Next Week
The aforementioned WSOP-C Cherokee series in North Carolina continues through next Monday, while the WPTDeepStacks - Live! festival plays out in Maryland and the Poker Night in America Poker Tour visits the Choctaw Casino in Oklahoma. Also ongoing is the Spring Poker Open at the Borgata in Atlantic City.
Across the Atlantic, the 2017 partypokerLIVE Millions Dusk Till Dawn Main Event is well underway with live updates right here on PokerNews. Also in action is the WSOP International Circuit - Cannes series in France while the partypoker Grand Prix Germany festival kicks off today at the Kings Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic.
The biggest series on the upcoming tournament calendar, though, is PokerStars Championship Monte Carlo that gets underway next Tuesday at the Monte-Carlo Casino®.
