YouStake Performance of the Week: Last Bracelet of the Summer Goes To Michael Tureniec
This week’s YouStake Performance of the Week is Sweden's Michael Tureniec. While all eyes in the poker world were fixated heavily on the 2016 World Series of Poker Main Event final table, Tureniec won his first gold bracelet in the $1,111 Little One for One Drop.
YouStake.com is a fully integrated sports staking platform that allows the masses to invest in skilled sports players for entry in live events. The company recently made headlines when it acquired the poker staking platform TastyStakes.com.
The $1,111 Little One for One Drop attracted a big field of 4,360 entries, with players having the option to buy-in for $1,000 for 5,000 in tournament chips, but then receive an additional 5,000 in chips for $111 extra that would go to the One Drop Foundation charity.
Tureniec won the event and the big $525,520 first-place prize, which proved to be his third largest score ever, and the Swede now boasts $3.765 million in live tournament earnings.
The road for Tureniec was a tough one, given that the field was so large, and it was filled with so many tough players. At the final table alone, Tureniec had to defeat Calvin Anderson in heads-up play, and Ryan D'Angelo finished in third place. If that's not a tough top three, we're not sure what is.
To boot, Tureniec started with nearly a 2-1 chip deficit against Anderson, who is one of the top players in the game. But, he battled back over the course of 70 hands to take down the title.
On the 78th hand of the final table, according to the WSOP.com coverage, Anderson raised to 875,000 with the blinds at 200,000/400,000/50,000. Tureniec made the call from the big blind, and the flop fell 10♥7♣5♥. Tureniec checked, Anderson bet 1.075 million, and Tureniec called.
The turn was the 7♥ to both pair the board and complete a flush draw. Both players checked, and the river was the 5♦ to add another pair to the board. Tureniec checked, Anderson fired 2.175 million, and Tureniec called with the K♥Q♠ after a big of time in the tank. That was only king high, but it was good as Anderson mucked.
Although that hand didn't give Tureniec the lead, it did give him plenty of momentum and he propelled his way to the win from there.
On the final hand, which occurred on Hand #125, Tureniec raised to 1.075 million at 250,000/500,000/50,000, and Anderson moved all in for about 11 million. Tureniec was good for the call and tabled the Q♠J♠ after getting a count and taking a moment to think it over. Anderson had the K♠10♦.
Anderson had the lead, but Tureniec vaulted in front with the J♦9♥2♣ flop. Anderson still had outs with an over card and a gutshot straight draw, but the 3♥ on the turn and 4♦ on the river meant Anderson was eliminated in second place for $324,597.
With that, Tureniec scored the final gold bracelet of the summer and moved up to fourth on the Swedish all-time money list, leapfrogging William Thorson, and becoming the latest YouStake Performance of the Week.
