Online Poker Star Shaun Deeb Adds to His Live Legend with a 2nd WSOP Win
One of the most accomplished tournament players in online poker history continued to add to his legend in the live realm, winning his second World Series of Poker gold bracelet in Las Vegas on Thursday.
Troy, NY's Shaun Deeb took down Event #49: $1,500 Seven-Card Stud, collecting a bracelet and $111,101 in first-place money, ultimately defeating a field of 331 players and a tough final table filled with many of the game's greats, who also happen to be his good friends.
"It obviously was a super tough final table with a lot of great players who have been playing for over a decade," Deeb said. "We’re all friends with each other. Obviously, we're playing for bracelets, but it's not a huge event. It's only a $1,500 buy-in, so there was a different attitude than you get in some of the other buy-in levels where people are a lot more miserable when they bust out.
"We had a lot of fun, and it's just great when you play people you feel comfortable with because I think I play better when I'm relaxed."
Deeb's online poker résumé includes multiple PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker and PokerStars Spring Championship of Online poker titles, more than $6.3 million in career cashes, according to PocketFives.com, and wins in just about every major tournament run on the virtual felt.
He continued to prove his mastery of the online game this Spring, winning the SCOOP Overall Player of the Series Contest heading into the 2016 WSOP.
Thursday's win marked the 30-year-old Deeb's 34th WSOP cash and he now holds more than $1.1 million in career earnings at the World Series of Poker alone.
Deeb said he ran incredibly hot throughout the final table and humbly claimed the win was due more to that than any kind of skill edge over final table opponents that included fellow WSOP bracelet winners Adam Friedman, Max Pescatori, Eugene Katchalov, John Monette, and Cory Zeidman.
"I didn't really have to outplay anyone," he said. "Anyone would’ve won with my cards in that tournament. I had all the big hands and all the three-way pots."
