YouStake Performance of the Week: "Angry" John Monnette's At It Again
A new feature on PokerNews, the YouStake Performance of the Week will be coming at you each and every week this summer, on Friday, and is designed to highlight great performances on the felt from Las Vegas during the 2016 World Series of Poker.
YouStake.com is a fully integrated sports staking platform that allows the masses to invest in skilled sports players for entry in live events. The company recently made headlines when it acquired the poker staking platform TastyStakes.com.
This week, no one showed off sustained success and proficiency in a variety of games more than John Monnette, making his the YouStake Performance of the Week.
The two-time WSOP bracelet winner from Palmdale, California made runner up in the 2016 WSOP $1500 2-7 Draw Lowball (No-Limit), notched his 42nd and 43rd lifetime cash at the WSOP, and, at press time Friday, was working on his 44th, deep in the $10,000 Dealers Choice 6-Handed Championship with just eight players remaining.
No matter where he finishes, Monnette's run in the Dealers Choice should put him in early contention for the Global Poker Index WSOP Player of the Year, and since he plays so many different games, he's always a threat to win it.
A high-stakes mixed cash legend and consistent force at the WSOP in every poker variant, Monnette has long been nicknamed "Angry John" thanks to a somewhat argumentative demeanor he often displays on the felt, especially when it comes to issues surrounding tournament structure and the rules of the game.
However, "Angry John" could be found with a rare smile on his face a number of times this week, as he enjoyed several deep runs.
Monnette is set to marry longtime poker media member Diana Cox once the WSOP is through, and her influence may have softened him a little.
Regardless, his game appears as sharp as ever, and thanks to his quick start at the 2016 WSOP, Monnette will take the YouStake Performance of the Week honors, this time around.
