GPL Results, Standings, and Schedule After Week 3: New York and Sao Paulo Do Well

Welcome to the weekly rundown of the Global Poker League here on PokerNews. In this space, all of the past week's results from the GPL will be listed, followed by league standings and a look at the following week's schedule.

Both the New York Rounders and the Sao Paulo Metropolitans were the big gainers this week in the Americas Conference, as each team posted 15 points. That enabled the Rounders to surge past the Montreal Nationals into first place with 40 points, while the Metropolitans moved out of the basement and into fifth. For the Rounders, it was the brothers Kenney doing work as Tyler Kenney placed first and second in a pair of six-match matches while Bryn Kenney salvaged three points in a 2-1 loss to Pascal Lefrancois in the heads-up portion. Tyler Kenney's six-max loss came at the hands of Felipe Mojave, who also posted a first and a second in the two matches, and Joao Bauer rounded out the scoring for the Metropolitans in a 2-1 loss to Jonathan Little.

Maria Ho's L.A. Sunset were the low-scoring team of Week 3 in the Americas. After a poor fifth-place showing by Eugene Katchalov in a six-max match, Ho tried to right the ship herself but could only repeat the finish. Katchalov then fell 2-1 to Faraz Jaka to make it a five-point week for the Sunset, who slipped from third to fourth.

In the EurAsia Conference, the Moscow Wolverines remain in third place after a 16-point week but are now five points back of the first-place Paris Aviators after being 11 back following Week 2. Andrey Pateychuk got first and third in a pair of six-match matches and Sergey Lebedev topped Timothy Adams 2-1 in the heads-up match.

The Berlin Bears, meanwhile, slipped behind the still-winless Rome Emperors and into last place in the EurAsia after a dismal four-point showing left them with just 22 for the season, worst in the entire GPL. The culprit this week was again Dan Cates, who followed up a poor Week 1 showing with six-max finishes of fifth and six before falling 2-1 to Randy Lew. Widely considered one of the stronger teams after the draft, the Bears have their work cut out for them.
