February was another big month for online poker tournament players on 888poker with all major tournaments crushing their posted guaranteed prize pools.
Every Sunday, 888poker runs a variety of tournaments with bigger prize pools than during the week. The $215 buy-in $120,000 Mega Deep and the $90 buy-in $100,000 Sunday Challenge is featured on the schedule every week, while the $600 buy-in $150,000 Whale takes place every other week.
888poker recently introduced $320 buy-in Baby Whale, which runs on alternating Sundays from the Whale. This new tournament featured a $75,000 guaranteed prize pool the first weekend it ran in February. Since it absolutely crushed this guarantee, 888poker already increased the guarantee on this tournament to $100,000.
As is usually the case when a special series isn't running, the biggest winners on 888poker in February came in the Whale. On Feb. 7, "derharry69" outlasted a field of 329-players to take first place for $35,969. Notable players on the final table in this tournament included Fabrizio "sevensense" Gonzalez grabbing second place for $26,953 and Peter "breeth" Turmezey banking $6,320 for eighth place.
Two weeks later, on Feb. 21, it was "P0kerwinners" navigated through a field of 348 players in the Whale to win $38,046. Other players with big final-table paydays included Andrei "ragaaaila19" Boghean (2nd - $28,510), Alexandr "Biack88" Trofimov (5th - $11,207), and Rory "DEOSONER" Young (9th - $3,441).
However, the star of the show was online poker tournament legend Chris Moorman who plays under the "WhatWudJSay" on 888poker. Not only did Moorman reach the final table in the Sunday Challenge on Feb. 7 with an eighth-place finish for $2,288, but he also reaped in $18,840 when he won this event just one week later.
This win put him over $13 million in online tournament poker cashes in his career according to PocketFives.com, which is by far the most out of anyone tracked on the site. To give you an idea of how huge this is, it is $4 million more than Sebastian "p0cket00" Sikorski who has slightly more than $9 million in online tournament poker cashes in his career, which is good enough for second most in online tournament history.
Moorman shared his excitement with Frank Op de Woerd of PokerNews while in Dublin for Day 1b of the European Poker Tour €5,300 Main Event.
"I was close — about $50,000 away for awhile — and it was [the Turbo Championship of Online Poker] and a chance to get a big score, but I kept missing out so it was nice to go over the line with a win rather than just a min-cash or something like that," explained Moorman.
