To the delight of online poker players around the world, the 2016 Turbo Championship of Online Poker (TCOOP) kicked off its action-packed schedule on Jan. 21 on PokerStars.

This year's schedule features 50 exciting events with a huge $45 million in guaranteed prize pools. We are now almost halfway through with 23 of the 50 events in the books with the rest of the TCOOP to be completed by the end of the weekend.

Action kicked off fast and furious with the opening event, TCOOP-01 [Phase 3 – Final Phase]: $27 NL Hold'em [6-Max, Turbo], making history the first three-phase tournament ever held in a PokerStars' 'COOP' series.

Based off the fact that Phase 1 & 2 tournaments were running all throughout the month of January, a PokerStars representative informed PokerNews that they projected that the event to have an enormous overlay of around $500,000. The overlay turned out to be slightly less than $200,000 with a huge total of 53,311 entrants striving for a big piece of the $1.5 million guaranteed prize pool.

When the final cards were dealt, it was Brazil's Helio "hneves182" Neves banking $111,000 by winning his first TCOOP title. United Kingdom's "acemaKerface" won $80,850 for second place and Romania's "soso74sos" snagged $53,760 for finishing in third place.

While the opening event thus far featured both the highest prize pool and most number of entrants in this year's TCOOP, the TCOOP-16: $700 NL Hold'em [Turbo, Progressive Super-Knockout], $1M Gtd awarded the biggest first place prize on Sunday when American poker refugee Patrick "pmahoney22" Mahoney claimed his first COOP victory to win $144,712.44 ($109,486.76 + $35,225.68 in bounties).

Other notable players on the final table included Ukraine's Artem "FaNjkEEE" Kobylynskyi (fourth place - $43,896.88 + $19,653.69 in bounties), American poker refugee Brandon "TedSTRETCH" Merrill (sixth place - $23,949.97 + $872.81 in bounties), and Will "molswi47" Molson (ninth place - $6,842.85 + $5,073.82 in bounties).

Also on Sunday, PokerStars Team Pro George "Jorj95" Lind won his second COOP title after shipping the TCOOP-15: $215 NL Hold'em [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $300K Gtd for $72,113.88. In 2012, Lind won the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) Event #26-L Stud Hi/lo and since then missed out on several opportunities to add another COOP title with a handful of final table and runner-up performances.

Lind, however, wasn't the first player to win a second COOP title during the series. On Jan. 22, Canada's "buzzard1881" finished in first place in the TCOOP-06: $82 NL Hold'em [6-Max, Turbo, Shootout], $100K Gtd to take home $17,539.45 as part of a three-way deal and his second COOP title. In 2013 "buzzard1881" won a World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) H.O.R.S.E. event for his first COOP title.

Shortly after Lind's victory, United Kingdom's Stephen "woody1234321" Woodhead became the first person of the series to claim a second TCOOP title after winning the TCOOP-17: $215 NL Hold'em [Turbo, Optional Re-Entry], $600K Gtd for $118,818.68. During last year's TCOOP, Woodhead won his first title in the TCOOP-03: $215 NLHE Turbo Progressive Super KO, $800K Gtd for over $95,000.

Among the players to win their first COOP title included the United Kingdom's Ben "Fabaz" Farrell shipping the TCOOP-19: $215 NL Hold'em [Hyper-Turbo, Sunday Supersonic SE], $300K Gtd for $84,490.25 after beating fellow countryman Oscar "MendaLerenda" Serradell, who collected $63,234.46. PokerNews recently interviewed Farrell about an epic heater he finished last year with.

Some of the biggest events are yet to come with Sunday promising to add tons of excitement with the schedule including the TCOOP High-Roller and TCOOP Wrap-Up both with $1 million prize pool guarantees, and the TCOOP Main Event with a huge $2 million guarantee.

Here is a look at the final table results of the first 23 TCOOP events:
