Carl Froch

Four-time world champion boxer, Carl Froch MBE, signed as an ambassador of partypoker in November 2015 and has since frequented online and live poker events sporting partypoker colours. At the end of 2015, Froch competed in a $100,000 Carl Froch Challenge online at partypoker and on January 31, 2016, he takes to the virtual felt again in another $100,000 guaranteed tournament.

The Cobra, Froch’s boxing nickname, is a $102+$7 buy-in tournament featuring a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool. In keeping with the boxing theme, The Cobra is played to a bounty format with $82 of the $100 buy-in going towards the prize pool and the other $20 being placed on each player’s head in the form of a bounty; bust an opponent and their $20 bounty is added to your partypoker account balance.

Froch and four other notable players like Dusk Till Dawn owner Rob Yong, Simon Trumper, Sky’s Formula 1 presenter Simon Lazenby, and Made In Chelsea TV star Jamie Laing are also competing in the tournament, but with a much bigger bounty on their heads, one weighing in at a cool $2,000! All five $2,000 bounty players are already registered for the tournament, scheduled for 6:00 pm GMT on January 31, 2016, and can be identified by the orange 'B' symbol next to their names in the tournament lobby.

Qualify For the $100,000 Cobra

partypoker is running a plethora of satellite tournaments that feed into the $100,000 guaranteed Cobra event. There are daily Mega Sats right up to January 30 that guarantee between 10 and 50 seats to the target tournament.

Players can also use partypoker’s recently revamped tickets system to try and win a $109 value ticket if they so wish. These tickets tournaments start as low as $0.01 and increase to $5.50, $22, and $55 (there are also $109 and $530 levels), meaning it is possible to play for a share of $100,000 for an initial $0.01 outlay. Some readers may think this is a long shot, but recently one of partypoker’s players started at the $0.01 level and won his way into the nightly $109 buy-in $50,000 guaranteed Uppercut and went on to win it for $9,625.

Exchange Points For Tickets

Another route into the $100,000 Cobra tournament is to exchange points earned at the partypoker tables for a $109 ticket via the loyalty store. A generic $109 ticket, which can be used in any $109 buy-in tournament, is available right now in the loyalty store.

The higher a player’s loyalty level is, the cheaper the ticket becomes. Silver VIPs can purchase a ticket for 3,000 points, which reduces to 1,500 for Gold VIPs. Anyone who is a Palladium VIP, only has to pay 1,000 points, which works out at 21.8% value as players earn two points per $1 rake or tournament fees.
