The Online Railbird Report: Fedor Holz Week's Biggest Winner; Phil Ivey Drops $421K
In this week's edition of the Online Railbird Report, we take a look at the week's biggest winners and losers from PokerStars' high-stakes cash games.
Technically the week's biggest winner was former WCOOP champ Fedor "CrownUpGuy" Holz, who won $132,546 in 957 hands across 10 sessions. However, as you'll read below, Elior "Crazy Elior" Sion, who has opted out of long-term tracking, was likely the week's biggest winner after booking several big wins.
Others who fared well this week were Ben "Sauce123" Sulsky, who followed up last week's $223,627 win by adding $107,576 to his bankroll, while both Patrik "Fake Love888" Antonius (+$89,998 in 11 sessions/1,112 hands) and Phil "MrSweets28" Galfond (+$55,385 in 6 sessions/1,255 hands) did well for themselves.
On the flip side, Phil "RaiseOnce" Ivey's bad year continued as he dropped $421,806 in 6,117 hands over 44 sessions, which made him the week's biggest loser. Not terribly far behind was Viktor "Isildur1" Blom, who lost $282,040 in 1,263 hands spread across 10 sessions.
Elior Sion & Alexander Kostritsyn Win Big
On Saturday, November 14, Sion finished as the day's biggest winner with $143,100 in profit, while Alexander "joiso" Kostritsyn wasn't far behind with $121,300. The former took most of his winnings off Ivey over 30 minutes of $1,000/$2,000 fixed-limit Omaha hi/lo (FLO8); in fact, HighStakesDB reports that Sion won $100,000 in just 86 hands.
As for Kostritsyn, he won playing a mix of $200/$400 pot-limit Omaha and $400/$4800 8-Game against Ivey, who lost $63,100 in just 17 hands of PLO and $58,100 after four hours of mixed.
In one notable hand, which actually happened at a four-handed table, Jens "Jeans89" Kyllönen ($33,070) opened for $1,720 from the under-the-gun position and Kostritsyn ($76,989.81) three-bet to $6,080 from the button. Both blinds folded, Kyllönen popped it to $19,160, and Kostritsyn called to see the 6♥4♦K♣ flop. Kyllönen moved all in for his last $13,910, and Kostritsyn made the call.
Kostritsyn: K♥10♥9♦3♦
Kyllönen: A♣A♥J♠J♣
Kyllönen was ahead with aces, and he held on the 7♦ turn, though that card gave Kostritsyn a ton more outs. However, it would be the 3♥ river that would give the Russian two pair and the $67,380 pot.
Tollerene Takes Ivey for $175K in Just 89 Hands; "fjuetekk" Wins a Big Pot
In the early morning hours on Tuesday, November 17, Ben "Ben86" Tollerene and Ivey squared off at the $200/$400 PLO tables. They'd play for less than an hour, and in the end Tollerene walked away a $175,100 winner after just 89 hands.
In the biggest pot of the match, Tollerene ($119,362) opened for $1,360 from the button and then called when Ivey ($40,400) three-bet to $4,240, which brought about a 6♠7♦3♠ flop. Ivey proceeded to check-call a bet of $4,319, and then check-called one of $8,638 on the 6♣ turn.
When the 2♣ completed the board on the river, Ivey checked for a third time and Tollerene bet $34,552. Ivey only had $23,203 and opted to call it off with the A♦A♣2♦10♠. Unfortunately for him, his two pair was no good as Tollerene held a full house with the 7♣6♥K♥J♠ to claim the $81,120 pot.
Meanwhile, on Monday, "Colisea" had finished as the day's biggest winner after profiting $115,300 playing a mix of $1,000/$2,000 H.O.R.S.E. and FLO8. More specifically, he won $62,000 playing the former against Kostritsyn, and $51,000 playing the latter against Blom.
Aside from that, Monday's biggest pot actually came from a four-handed $200/$400 PLO table. It began when "BERRI SWEET" ($65,296.78) raised to $1,720 from under the gun, the button folded, and "fjuetekk" ($65,296.78) three-bet to $5,880 from the small blind. Ivey ($55,046.80) called from the big blind, "BERRI SWEET" four-bet to $23,840, and both his opponents called to see the 10♠Q♠2♥ flop.
"fjuetekk" moved all in for $24,355, Ivey did the same for $31,206.80, and "BERRI SWEET" called to put both players at risk.
"BERRI SWEET": A♠A♥9♣5♦
Ivey: A♣4♣K♠5♠
"fjuetekk": 10♥10♦K♣K♦
The aces of "BERRI SWEET" suddenly went from first to worst, while Ivey was in second with straight and flush draws. The trip tens of "fjuetekk" were vulnerable, but they managed to hold as the 7♦ peeled off on the turn followed by the 7♣ on the river. Ship the $158,928.60 pot to "fjuetekk," who ended up profiting $45,300 on the day.
Sion Finishes as Wednesday's Biggest Winner
On Wednesday, November 19, Sion was the day's biggest winner for the third time in four days after winning $147,400 at the $1,000/$2,000 FLO8 tables. Sion did so in just 78 minutes against the likes of Ilari "Ilari FIN" Sahamies and Timofey "Trueteller" Kuznetsov, with the former losing $162,900.
Meanwhile, Holz made his finished as the day's second-biggest winner after banking $89,300 playing $50/$100 no-limit hold'em. In the biggest pot he played, "antoha1998" ($18,436.12) opened for $277 under the gun and Alex "Kanu7" Millar ($21,748.24) and Holz ($20,898.86) called from the small and big blinds respectively.
When the flop came down 7♣6♠4♠, two checks saw "antoha1998" continue for $263.32. Millar woke up with a check-raise to $1,150, and then Holz three-bet to $3,328.65. "antoha1998" got out of the way, Millar called, and the K♥ appeared on the turn. Millar checked and then called when Holz moved all in for $17,293.21.
Millar: 7♦7♥
Holz: 5♥3♥
Millar had flopped top set, but it was behind the flopped straight of Holz. The two agreed to run the river twice, but neither the J♠ on the first nor 8♦ on the second helped Millar, and he watched the $42,448.04 pot pushed to Holz.
