Delaney Leads After Day 3 of 2015 partypoker.net WPT Montreal Main Event with 16 Left
Just 16 players remained after Day 3 of 2015 partypoker.net World Poker Tour Montreal Main Event came to an end on Tuesday. Leading the way was Trevor Delaney, who final tabled the 2015 WPT Canadian Spring Championship at the same venue — Playground Poker Club — earlier this year.
The day began with 63 players and Delaney had the second-best stack in the room. After five 90-minute levels, Delaney had improved to the top spot on the leaderboard and only 16 players were left.
Delaney’s lead was a significant one. He bagged 3,285,000 in chips, which was well in front of the next largest count of Craig Stewart with 2,425,000. Nobody else surpassed the 2,000,000 mark. Third place was filled by WPT Champions Club member Brian Altman with 1,965,000.

Some of the players who were eliminated on Day 3 to collect their payout included Scott Davies (28th - $13,370), Anthony Zinno (31st - $13,370), Cornel Cimpan (36th - $13,370), Mike Linster (39th - $11,490), Jeff Madsen (40th - $11,490), Marc-Etienne McLaughlin (50th - $9,850), and Freddy Deeb ($8,210).
One of the great stories from the day was that of Vi Thanh "Tony" To who was only in the tournament by a strange turn of events. He bought his entry on one of the early Day 1s and was eliminated before the end of the day. He went to the airport to get a flight home but couldn't get one. Not knowing what to do until a flight was available, he decided to return to Playground Poker Club and buy another entry to WPT Montreal.
That entry saw him come into Day 3 in the money wearing a hoodie with the old, first generation Nintendo Gameboy on it, earning him the nickname "Gameboy." Part way through the day, "Gameboy" found himself almost eliminated, holding less than one big blind’s worth of chips.
We missed the first double-up, but his second came when he pushed all in with the J♠5♠ and Kyle Bowker came along with 7♦7♥. After the board ran out 4♦3♠10♦A♣J♥, Gameboy yelled out, "Yes! A chip and a chair!"
It wasn’t long after that Gameboy had quickly spun up an average stack. Then a series of preflop aggression saw Mads Fournaise push all in preflop with the 10♥10♦ and Gameboy snap-called with the Q♥Q♣. He climbed up on his chair, towering high above the table to watch the dealer deliver A♣K♥8♥2♣J♣ and Gameboy celebrated another big pot.
"Gameboy's back!" he yelled, running around the tournament room and returning to collect enough chips to put him just shy of 1,500,000 — one of the largest stacks in the room.
Unfortunately, his amazing comeback came to an end before the day concluded. He had made several pay jumps since he seemed inevitably finished with his miniscule stack earlier in the day, and he ultimately finished in 18th place for $22,290.
Action will resume at noon local time on Wednesday with the final 16 players playing down to the final table of six, putting them one step away from having that top prize of $433,410 CAD within reach.
