2015 WSOP Europe 888 Hand of the Day: Satellite King Anton Wigg Takes The Lead
The 2015 World Series of Poker Europe continued in Berlin, Germany, Saturday with the second of two starting flights in Event #8: €1,100 Turbo No-Limit Hold’em w/ Reentry.

A regular on the European circuit with multiple wins and dozens of cashes, Sweden's Anton Wigg turned up to play the Saturday flight in Berlin. In fact, by the time the first few levels were through, Wigg had moved to the top of the chip counts.
But win or lose, the serial qualifier will also be here for the 2015 WSOP Europe Main Event later this week, thanks to a satellite win on 888 poker.
Saturday, Wigg vaulted to the top of the leaderboard thanks to a big pair that will serve as today's 888 Hand of the Day.
With blinds at 100/200 there was a raise to 425 and one caller when Wigg looked down at the K♠K♣ on the button.
"The hijack, who had been pretty tight, was the one who opened, and the cutoff, who was fairly passive, called," he told PokerNews. "I pick up kings on the button and make it 1,200."
"Maybe if the blinds are short I may try to flat and get their stacks in as well. They could try to ship and then I'm in a really good spot, but that wasn't the case here, so I think the three-bet is pretty standard."
After folds from the blinds the hijack responded by pushing all in for 8,600 total and the cutoff folded. Wigg made the obvious call and despite the K♦ in the window making him a set, he was no lock as the J♥9♥ gave his opponent's A♥K♥ a flush draw.
The Q♠ on the turn also gave his opponent a gutshot, making it an even tougher hold.
"There was a bit of a sweat," Wigg said.
However, the river bricked, Wigg moved into the early lead, and took down Saturday's 888 Hand of the Day.
Heading into the middle levels of the day with a big stack, Wigg said he doesn't necessarily want to push too hard.
"If the table lets me I will do that," he said. "If they don't, I'm going to just sit back and enjoy my chips.
"Especially in these lower buy-in reentry events, where there may be some more inexperienced players, you can't just run over them because you have chips. I would need to have a reason to do it. But if I do, it will be all the more fun."
Wigg is a full-time tournament player and always looking for the kind of vale he found in the 888 poker satellite where he picked up his 2015 WSOP Europe Main Event seat.
"I always play the qualifiers," he said. "Satellites are my main game. It's always nice to be able to get into a Main Event for less.
"If I can get in for two or three thousand then my variance is so much lower. Then again, I could end up spending six or seven thousand and still have to buy in."
