Season 5 UKIPT Isle of Man 13-Event Series Kicks Off Tomorrow with £440 Main Event
The UK & Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) Isle of Man kicks off tomorrow at the historic Villa Marina venue in Douglas. From October 1-4, the stop, which requires players only be 18 years old, will include 13 events with the premiere event being a £400 + £40 Main Event.
That tournament will be covered by the PokerNews Live Reporting Team, which means players will have the opportunity to use the My Stack app to update their hands and chip counts straight into the live blog. If you don't have it on your phone already, download the My Stack app absolutely free on either Apple or Android, click here.
"Any player who has attended a PokerStars-sponsored live poker tournament knows how fun and profitable they can be," said PokerNews Editor-in-Chief Donnie Peters. "The UKIPT Isle of Man epitomizes those two things, by bringing together an affordable, but marquee poker tournament with a fun experience both on and off the felt. For those who can’t afford the €5,000 price tag of European Poker Tour events, the UKIPT is where it’s at."
" With a thriving poker scene, friendly locals, and a venue right on the sea front, UKIPT Isle of Man will be one of the most unforgettable stops on Season 5."
Last year, 24-year-old Josh Hart topped a field of 402 players to secure his first ever UKIPT title and £57,484. Hart, a 24 year-old online professional, made a heads-up deal with Irishman Ciaran Heaney where they virtually chopped the prize money and played for £5,000 and the title.
Interestingly, this year's stop will also play host to the Isle of Man International Chess Tournament, which will run from October 2-11. While the first edition of the PokerStars Isle of Man International Chess Tournament was a resounding success last year, this year’s tournament promises to put the Isle of Man on the global chess map for good.
"It’s great to see the Isle of Man International Chess Tournament returning for another year," said PokerStars Mind Sport Ambassador Jen Shahade. "I think having the two festivals running simultaneously is fantastic as it really demonstrates the similarities of the skills and strategies that make both games so competitive and interesting; I am really looking forward to playing in both on PokerStars’ Isle of Man 10-year anniversary."

To mark the third time PokerStars has brought the UKIPT live poker festival and hundreds of players to its hometown, the festival will kick off with a free-to-view 3D projection and lighting spectacular at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30. That show, which was commissioned to celebrate 10 years on the Island, will take place in the Villa Marina gardens, with the theme of celebrating the Isle of Man as a nation.
The shows, which will run for around five minutes and will be repeated each night of the series, will be open to the public for free.
"PokerStars have had a great 10 years on the Island," said PokerStars Interim CEO Michael Hazel. "We are extremely proud to be part of the local community and are delighted they can share in our celebrations. Here’s to continuing to work together into the future.”
PokerStars are also hosting their annual invitational charity tournament on the Saturday evening. All donations will be matched by the company’s Corporate Giving Programme, Helping Hands, with the entire amount being donated to local charity, Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation.
For those interested in attending the UKIPT, there are only two ways to get there. The first is by air, and the other is by sea (Consult the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company for that). Regarding air travel, five airlines currently serve the Isle of Man:
- Aer Lingus - Fly from Dublin.
- British Airways - Fly from London City Airport.
- CityWing - Fly from Glasgow, Belfast City, Blackpool, Gloucester, and Newcastle.
- easyjet - Fly from Liverpool, Bristol, and London Gatwick.
- Flybe - Fly from Birmingham, Glasgow, Liverpool, Stansted, and Mancheste
Once there, buses run from the airport every 20 minutes. Taxis are also available and should run players £18 - £23.
