Daniel Negreanu Busts in 11th Place in the 2015 WSOP Main Event (Update: 12:20 a.m.)
Heading into Day 7 of the 2015 World Series of Poker Main Event, six-time gold bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu is ninth in chips of the remaining 27 players. For the summer, there is no larger stage. The final table won't be played out for a few months, but today is the day the November Nine will be realized.
It's going to be a long day of poker that won't stop until the final nine are left. Whether or not Negreanu will be able to maneuver his way there is still left to be determined, but he understands just how important this day is.
"This is a bigger stage than any stage in the world," Negreanu told PokerNews. "This is the one event that people who don't watch poker everyday care about. This is the one that makes mainstream news, and it's the most hyped."
With over $30 million in live tournament earnings, six gold bracelets, two World Poker Tour titles, the leading sponsorship from the biggest online poker site, an induction into the Poker Hall of Fame, and numerous other accolades, one might think there isn't much left for Negreanu to achieve in the game. For him, though, the Main Event holds a very special place.
"When I was a kid, I used to watch it on TV before they even showed hole cards," he said. "The Main Event has always meant more to me than any event."
With 8.495 million in chips heading into Day 7, Negreanu will start on the main feature table under the bright lights and ESPN cameras. At this point, no table draw can be considered easy, and Negreanu will be squaring off with Blake Bohn, Justin Schwartz, Federico Butteroni, David Stefanski, Thomas Cannuli, Christoph Brand, David Peters, and Max Steinberg.

1:30 p.m. — Negreanu Very Active Early; Doubles Up Steinberg
Hand #1: Negreanu opened to 275,000 from under the gun, and David Stefanski called from middle position.
The flop fell 7♠3♥7♦, and Negreanu continued for 375,000. Stefanski called to see the 7♣ turn. Negreanu bet 650,000, and Stefanski opted to fold.
Hand #2: Blake Bohn raised to 275,000 from the button, and Negreanu defended his big blind with a call.
The flop fell A♥K♣6♦, and Negreanu check-called 425,000 from Bohn to see the 7♣ turn. Both checked, the 2♠ river completed the board, and Negreanu bet 575,000. Bohn folded, giving Negreanu the pot.
Negreanu moved to 10.325 million with these two pots.
Hand #5: Negreanu raised to 275,000 from the cutoff seat, and Federico Butteroni called from the button.
The flop fell 3♥9♠K♥, and Negreanu bet 225,000. Butteroni called to see the 5♦ turn, which both players checked. The J♣ river completed the board, and Negreanu bet 575,000. Butteroni folded.
Hand #9: Negreanu raised to 275,000 from early position, Max Steinberg three-bet to 750,000 from the small blind, Negreanu four-bet to effectively 3.65 million, and Steinberg called all in.
Negreanu: 8♥8♠
Steinberg: A♣A♦
The board ran out 5♠5♦6♥K♠K♥, no help to Negreanu, and Steinberg scored the double.
After that hand, Negreanu dropped to 7.585 million.
Hand #12: Steinberg opened to 360,000 from the hijack, Negreanu called from the small blind, and Butteroni called from the big blind.
The flop fell 3♣5♥J♦, and action checked to Steinberg, who bet 525,000. Only Negreanu called to see the 5♠ turn, and that's where he check-folded to a bet of 1.250 million from Steinberg.
Negreanu dropped back to 6.535 million, and the blinds moved up to 80,000/160,000/20,000.
Hand #17: Negreanu raised to 350,000 from middle position, David Peters three-bet shoved for about 1.95 million from the small blind, and Negreanu mulled it over for a bit before he folded.
That put Negreanu on 6.085 million.
Hand #20: Thomas Cannuli opened to 375,000 from middle position, and Negreanu called from the big blind.
The flop fell 3♣3♦8♣, and Negreanu checked to Cannuli, who continued for 375,000. Negreanu check-raised to 1.075 million, and after a few moments in the tank, Cannuli folded, putting Negreanu on 7.035 million.
Hand #21: Justin Schwartz opened to 350,000 from the button, and Negreanu called from the small blind.
They checked to the turn on the 10♣Q♠5♣Q♣ board. Negreanu bet 475,000, Schwartz folded, and Negreanu collected the pot to move to 7.705 million.
Hand #22: Negreanu raised the button to 350,000 and Stefanski called from the big blind. They checked to the river of the Q♦10♣A♦9♠J♥, and that's where Stefanski bet 305,000. Negreanu popped it to 705,000, and Stefanski quickly folded.
After all of this action, Negreanu was on 8.6 million.
2:30 p.m. — Negreanu Sliding
Hand #27: Negreanu opened to 350,000 from early position, Thomas Cannuli three-bet to 950,000 from middle position and Negreanu called to see the flop fall 5♠K♥4♥.
Negreanu checked to Cannuli who continued for 675,000. A call from Negreanu landed the 10♣ turn which both checked. The J♣ river completed the board and Negreanu checked to Cannuli for a third time. After a few moments Cannuli bet 1.2 million, sending Negreanu into the tank for a bit before he called.
Canuli tabled A♥K♦ for a pair kings, Negreanu mucked and Cannuli collected the pot.
That hand dropped Negreanu down to 5.675 million (35 big blinds).
Hand #31: Bohn opened to 405,000 from the hijack and Negreanu called from the button.
The flop fell 4♥10♣2♥, Bohn bet 975,000 and Negreanu called to see the 8♣ turn. Bohn checked, Negreanu bet effective 2.15 million-ish and Bohn folded.
Negreanu upped his stack to about 7.135 million
Hand #38: Cannuli opened to 375,000 from under the gun and Negreanu called from the button.
They checked to the turn of a board that read 8♣10♥A♣8♦ where Negreanu check-folded to a bet from Cannuli.
Negreanu slipped to about 6.3 million.
Hand #41: Negreanu opened to 350,000 from middle position, Stefanski shoved for about 3.1 million from the cutoff and Negreanu folded, falling to about 5.9 million in the process.
3:30 p.m. — Negreanu Gets in His First Three-Bets
Hand #45: Thomas Cannuli opened to 375,000 from under the gun, Negreanu three-bet to 975,000 from the button, and Cannuli folded.
Hand #46: Justin Schwartz opened to 350,000 from the hijack, Negreanu three-bet to 750,000 from the cutoff, and Schwartz gave it up to allow Negreanu to chip back up to 7.035 million.
Hand #52: Schwartz limped from the cutoff seat, Negreanu did the same from the button, and Stefanski checked his option in the big blind.
The flop fell 7♣6♠K♦, and action checked to Negreanu who bet 250,000. Stefanski folded, Schwartz check-raied to 600,000, and Negreanu called to see the 3♣ turn. Schwartz shoved for about 3.22 million, and Negreanu folded, dropping to about 5.915 million.
The players went on break shortly thereafter and the next level started with blinds of 100,000/200,000 and a 30,000 ante. Negreanu's stack stood at 5.895 million, and he spoke with Remko Rinkema on the break.
Hand #57: After the break, Schwartz raised to 550,000 from the small blind, and Negreanu callled from the big blind.
The flop fell 2♥2♣7♥, and Schwartz fired a bet, resulting in a Negreanu fold. With that, Negreanu slipped to about 5.25 million.
4:30 p.m. — Down to 18 Players
Hand #64: Thomas Cannuli opened to 525,000 from the hijack and Negreanu called from the big blind.
The flop fell 8♠2♦K♥ and Negreanu checked to Cannuli who continued for 450,000. Negreanu check-raised to 1.1 million, Cannuli came along and the 5♠ landed on the turn.
Negreanu checked to Cannuli who, after a few moments, bet 875,000. Negreanu check-raised all in for 3.29 million and Cannuli quickly kicked in his cards.
Negreanu increased his stack to 7.725 million.
Hand #66: Negreanu raised to 440,000 on the button, Stefanski three-bet shoved for 3.385 million from the big blind and Negreanu folded, dropping to 7.125 million.
Hand #69: Schwartz limped from under the gun, Negreanu limped from the next seat over, David Peters completed from the small blind and Max Steinberg checked his option.
The flop fell 8♣5♦5♣ and action folded to Negreanu who bet 525,000. Only Schwartz called to see the 5♥ turn which both players checked. The 3♦ river completed the board and Schwartz fired 1.3 million. Negreanu tanked for about two minutes before he called, but mucked when Schwartz tabled 8♥8♠ for eights full of fives.
That hand knocked Negreanu down to 5.52 million.
Hand #71: Negreanu was in the big blind and called a raise from David Peters, but folded to Peters' continuation bet on the flop.
Hand #72: Negreanu limped from the small blind, Butteroni checked his option, the flop fell 7♠8♦4♠ and Negreanu took it down with a bet on the flop.
Hand #73: Negreanu raised to 440,000 from the button and took down the pot.

Hand #79: Justin Schwartz raised to 425,000 from under the gun, Alexander Turyansky called from early position, Negreanu called from the button and David Peters called from the big blind.
The flop fell 4♥A♥6♣ and action checkeded to Turyansky who bet 460,000. Only Negreanu called to see the 5♥ turn which Turyansky checked. Negreanu bet 1.1 million, Turyansky called and the 8♠ river completed the board. Turyansky checked to Negreanu again and he fired 1.75 million, resulting in a quick fold from Turyansky.
Negreanu upped his stack to 8.59 million.
Hand #80: Negreanu raised to 440,000 from the cutoff and Matt Guan called from the big blind.
They checked to the turn of a A♠J♦7♠2♥ board where Negreanu bet 575,000, enough to get Guan to fold.
Hand #81: Negreanu raised to 440,00 from the hijack and Schwartz called from the big blind.
The flop came down 4♥6♠7♦ and Schwartz check-folded to a Negreanu continuation bet.
With those two consecutive pots, Negreanu is up to 10.15 million.
Hand #86: Joe McKeehen raised to 400,000 from the cutoff and Negreanu called from the big blind.
The flop fell A♦9♠J♠ and Negreanu check-called 425,000 from McKeehen to see the 10♠ turn. Negreanu led for 1.2 million and McKeehen folded.
Negreanu increased his stack to 11.19 million, his peak of the day.
Hand #89: George McDonald raised to 400,000 from middle position, Negreanu called from cutoff, Peters called from the small blind and Guan called from the big blind.
The flop was J♣2♠4♥ and Peters led out for 650,000. McDonald called and Negreanu opted to fold, slipping to 10.6 million.
Hand #90: Negreanu raised to 440,000 from the hijack, David Peters three-bet shoved from the button for 2.295 million and Negreanu called after a few moments.
Negreanu: A♣J♥
Peters: 7♥7♦
The board rolled out 3♥6♥Q♦2♦A♦, giving Negreanu a pair of aces on the river to eliminate Peters in 17th place.
Negreanu increased his stack to 13.44 million and is at his peak of the day, sitting sixth in chips overall.
6:30 p.m. — Negreanu Makes a Big Laydown
Hand #95: Matt Guan opened to 400,000 from early position, Joe McKeehen three-bet to 1.125 million from the cutoff, Negreanu four-bet to 2.6 million from the big blind, Guan folded, McKeehen five-bet shoved for about 9.8 million and Negreanu tanked for about three minutes, held his A♠K♦ up and folded, dropping to 10.69 million in the process.
The players reached another break and when play resumed the blinds were 120,000/240,000 with a 40,000 ante. Negreanu had 10.5 million, which was good for ninth in chips with 15 players remaining.
Hand #101: Negreanu raised to 540,000 from early position and took down the pot.
Hand #103: Justin Schwartz raised to 500,000 from middle position, Negreanu three-bet to 1.4 million from the big blind and Schwartz folded after some deliberation.
Negreanu increased his stack to 11.92 million.
8:05 p.m. — Dangerous Times for Negreanu, But Still Alive at Dinner Break
Hand #111: Schwartz raised from middle position, Negreanu defended his big blind and they checked to the turn of a 9♥J♣5♠9♦ board. Negreanu fired at the pot and took it down.
Hand #112: Turyansky raised to 500,000 from middle position, Negreanu called from the small blind and Joshua Beckley called from the big blind.
The flop came down J♥Q♦9♦ and Negreanu led out for 850,000. Beckley called, Turyansky raised to 2.2 million and Negreanu ducked out of the way, slipping to 11.03 million.
Hand #121: McKeehen raised to 480,000 from middle position, Butterino called from the cutoff and Negreanu called from the button.
The flop fell 2♠2♦3♦ and McKeehen continued for 550,000. Butterino folded, Negreanu called, the 9♥ turn was checked by both and the 4♥ river completed the board. McKeehen bet 1.3 million and sent Negreanu into the tank for about four minutes before he folded.
Negreanu dropped to 8.9 million.
Hand #122: Negreanu raised to 540,000 from the cutoff, Matt Guan three-bet to 1.3 million and Negreanu layed it down.
Hand #124: Negreanu raised to 540,000 from middle position and McKeehen called from the big blind.
The flop was Q♣7♦2♣ and McKeehen checked to Negreanu who continued for 675,000. McKeehen check-raised to 1.725 million and Negreanu quickly folded. McKeehen tabled 2♥2♦ as he collected the pot.

Hand #127: McKeehen raised to 480,000 from the cutoff and Daniel Negreanu called from the small blind.
The flop fell 10♥J♣4♠ and Negreanu checked to McKeehen who continued for 525,000. Negreanu called, the 6♣ turn fell and Negreanu checked. McKeehen bet 1.35 million and again Negreanu called. The 4♠ river completed the board and Negreanu checked for a third time. McKeehen bet 2 million and Negreanu called after a few moments, but mucked when McKeehen tabled K♥K♦.
Negreanu was knocked down to about to 2.31 million, less than 10 big blinds.
Hand #128: Action folded to Negreanu on the button and he raised all in for about 2.31 million, getting folds from the blinds.
Hand #130: Negreanu raised all in for about 2.79 million from the hijack and McKeehen called from the big blind.

The board ran out 9♠10♣3♠J♥K♣, safe for Negreanu to get the crucial double.
The remaining 13 players are on dinner break now and Negreanu is 12th in chips with 5.9 million.
10:05 p.m. — Negreanu Hanging in There
Hand #137: Negreanu raised to 675,000 from under the gun and found no action, winning the blinds and antes.
Hand #142: Negreanu raised to 675,000 from the hijack, Matt Guan three-bet shoved with a bigger stack from the button and Negreanu folded, dropping to 4.525 million in the process.
Hand #145: McKeehen min-raised to 600,000 from the cutoff, Negreanu three-bet shoved from the small blind for about 4 million and McKeehen folded.
Two more players have busted and 11 players remain. Negreanu is the short stack with 5.125 million at the 150,000/300,000/50,000 level.
11:05 p.m. — Negreanu Chipping Up
Hand #156: McKeehen raised to 600,000 from the cutoff, Negreanu reraised all in for 3.975 million from the small blind and McKeehen folded.

Hand #168: Butteroni opened to 675,000 from under the gun and Negreanu three-bet shoved from the cutoff for 6.525 million. Action folded back to Butteroni who folded as well.

Negreanu 9♣7♣ for two pair, besting McKeehen's holdings to win the pot and increase his stack to 9.525 million.
Hand #171: Turyansky raised to 600,000 from the under the gun and Negreanu called from the small blind.
The flop came down 10♣10♠3♦ and Negreanu check-called 350,000 from Turyansky to see the 9♦ turn. Both checked and the J♣ river completed the board. Both checked again and Negreanu showed ace high. Turyansky, though, showed Q♣9♣ for tens and nines to win the pot.
Negreanu slipped to 8.525 million and is ninth in chips with 11 players remaining.

Hand #174: Negreanu raised to 600,000 from under the gun and took down the blinds and antes
Hand #175: McKeehen raised to 600,000 from the button and Negreanu called from the big blind. They checked down a 3♣Q♥8♠A♦3♠ board and McKeehen won it with 8♥5♥.
Negreanu dropped to 8.425 million.
Hand #179: Negreanu raised to 600,000 from the under the gun and Butteroni defended his big blind.
The flop fell A♦9♥A♣ and Butteroni check-folded to a bet from Negreanu, who is now up to 9.075 million.
Hand #182: McKeehen opened to 600,000 from under the gun and Negreanu called from the button. The flop was 3♥6♣5♠ and McKeehen took it down with a bet of 650,000
Negreanu fell to 7.875 million.
Hand #185: McKeehen raised to 600,000 from the button and Negreanu called from the big blind.
The flop was 5♣3♣A♣ and Negreanu checked to McKeehen who bet 550,000, enough to get Negreanu to fold. McKeehen showed the A♦.
Negreanu dropped to 7.125 million.
Hand #190: McKeehen raised to 600,000 from the button and Negreanu three-bet shoved from the big blind for about 6.8 million. McKeehen folded and Negreanu collected the pot.
Negreanu is back at 7.725 million.
The blinds increased to 200,000/400,000 with a 50,000 ante. Negreanu has 6.825 million and is ninth in chips with 11 players remaining. Tournament Director Effel announced that hand-for-hand play will begin when play gets back underway/
Hand #200: McKeehen raised to 800,000 from the button and Negreanu called from the big blind.
The flop fell 10♦K♣A♦ and Negreanu checked to McKeehen who bet 700,000. Negreanu check-raised all in for 5.825 million and McKeehen called immediately.

McKeehen: J♦3♦
Negreanu had to fade a lot outs with top pair and McKeehen picked up a few more with the 3♥ turn. The Q♥ river fell, giving McKeehen an ace-high straight to eliminate Negreanu in 11th place for $526,778.
