Global Poker Index: Seiver Surges to Top of POY Race, 2nd Behind Schemion Overall
Each week, the Global Poker Index releases a list of the top 300 tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes into account a player’s results over six half-year periods. The GPI also ranks the top performers of the year over two six-month periods as calculated by the USA Today Global Poker Index point system.

Scott Seiver moves up to claim the lead this week in the 2015 Global Poker Index Player of the Year race, knocking Joe Kuether out of first after just a week at the top. Seiver’s 32nd-place finish in the World Poker Tour L.A. Poker Classic earned him the points to pass Kuether.
Speaking of the WPT L.A. Poker Classic, Anthony Zinno charged all of the way up from No. 43 to No. 4 this week on the strength of his victory there, his second WPT title in February and third of his career. Connor Drinan also cashed in that event (finishing 39th) while taking third in the $50,000 L.A. Poker Classic Turbo High Roller, enabling him to make a big leap as well from No. 81 to No. 10.

Meanwhile in the overall GPI rankings Ole Schemion remains in front for a 12th-straight week, although Seiver has closed the gap a bit to edge up from No. 4 to No. 2.
Daniel Negreanu moved up from No. 9 to No. 6 this week after the addition of points he earned from finishing 35th in the WPT L.A. Poker Classic, while Stephen Chidwick rejoins the top 10, taking the place vacated by Jonathan Duhamel who slipped from No. 7 to No. 12.

There are just nine new players joining the GPI Top 300 this week, with three of them moving upwards in the rankings thanks to their finishes at the recently completed Latin American Poker Tour Chile Main Event in Viña del Mar.
Winner Oscar Alache — who in Chile captured his second LAPT title in less than six months — moved up from No. 434 to No. 169 to make his career debut inside the Top 300. Fourth-place finisher Nacho Barbero (who also has two LAPT titles to his credit) advanced from No. 365 to No. 119. And Nicolau Villa-Lobos finished 18th, enabling him to go from No. 363 to No. 271.

Alache was the biggest gainer this week in the overall rankings, while Igor Yaroshevsky used a fourth-place finish in the WPT L.A. Poker Classic to make a big jump as well from No. 369 to No. 203.
