2015 PokerStars.net ANZPT Perth Day 1b: Chidwick Outraces Ferrari for the Lead
The first stop on Season 7 of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) continued on Thursday afternoon as 93 players hit the tables for the second and final Day 1 flight of the 2015 PokerStars.net ANZPT Perth Main Event.
When added with the 99 players from Day 1a, the total field ended up at 192 players. That created a prize pool of AU$393,600 with the top 21 to share in the spoils and the eventual champ to pocket AU$105,000.
The player from Day 1b to put himself in the best position to make a run at that top prize was Stephen Chidwick. The prominent pro from the UK finished up with 76,350 in chips, which was just ahead of Jack Ferrari with 76,075.

Chidwick and Ferrari were amongst the 51 survivors from Day 1b and both will fancy their chances heading into Friday's Day 2. Chidwick is fresh off a solid Aussie Millions that saw him finish fourth in the $25,000 Challenge for a score of more than $200,000 USD.
While Chidwick ended up on top, it was Ferrari who was looking very likely to be the chip leader when he won a massive three-way all-in pot. Ferrari had the A♥A♠ against Michael Pedley’s K♣K♦ and another player's A♦K♥. The board ran out blanks, and with that, Ferrari had tripled up to send one player home and leave Pedley short stacked.
Some of the others who survived Day 1b include Tamara Volkoff (72,850), Stev Lackovic (61,100), Henry Szmelcer (52,175), Jack Salter (49,625), Michael Guzzardi (36,125), and Mustapha Kanit (24,425). Full chip counts and the Day 2 seating draw can be found in the live reporting blog.
Not all the players were as fortunate as the aforementioned as dozens were eliminated throughout the day. One of those who hit the rail early in the day was recent PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Super High Roller champion Steve O’Dwyer.
It took two hands for O'Dwyer to find the rail, first losing most of his chips when he got aggressive preflop with 10x10x and ran into a player's KxKx, and then the losing the rest when he hit a flush with the Q♣8♣ and was four-flushed by Ash Mason with the A♣8♦.
All the players who did survive Day 1b will now join with those from Day 1a from 12:30 p.m. local time on Friday. There will be 105 total players to kick off the action and once again PokerNews will be on hand to provide continued updates of the ANZPT Perth Main Event.
