UK & Ireland PokerNews Round-Up: Kamel Continues To Climb
The past seven days have been relatively quiet in the UK & Ireland poker worlds, thanks in part to the 2015 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure taking center stage, but that doesn't mean that there wasn't anything to get us all hot and bothered about.
One of the most popular grinders on the UK and European circuit is Tamer Kamel. A pizzeria owner by day and extremely talented poker player by night – a very charitable one at that – Kamel has been on a real tear of late and that has resulted in him continuing to climb up the Global Poker Index rankings.
Kamel and his fellow British poker tournament specialists will have plenty of opportunity to add to their GPI points balances with the £1 million guaranteed Sky Poker UK Poker Championships fast approaching and a brand new low buy-in tour heading to Dublin courtesy of 888poker.
Speaking of Dublin, that was the city where Scott Gray took down the Irish Amateur Poker Championships over the weekend. Gray, who finished fourth in the 2002 World Series of Poker Main Event, bested a field of 73 players to get his hands on the €2,050 first place prize and a place in the history books thanks to the tournament's uniqueness. Away from the live arena and back to the comfort of online poker, Chris Moorman looks to be trying to get 2015 off to a flying start judging by how many tournaments he's played in January so far. I've predicted that Moorman will reclaim the UK and world number one online ranking positions by the end of the year and I think it would take a brave person to bet against that happening. He's currently number three in the UK.
888poker was the site where British pros excelled in the latest Sunday Majors with the likes of Paul “BobaFett411” McTaggart banking a $19,226.80 score and Rob Tinnion a $26,980 one for finishing fourth and third in The Whale tournament.
