Much like last week, the United Kingdom has been under attack from freezing temperatures and blizzard-like weather, and the only thing keeping us warm has been the continued success of our online and live grinders – you'd be surprised at how much heat a round of applause can generate!

One of the most successful British players of all-time is Stephen Chidwick. Online he has won millions in tournaments and cash games, but most of his focus is now on live tournaments, as would yours be if you were a total boss in this field!

Chidwick has been the number one player in the UK's Global Poker Index for some time now, and this week returned to the worldwide top 10 on the back of some solid results at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure and the Aussie Millions. You can find out more about Chidwick's great start to 2015 in our GPI rankings article.

Someone else enjoying riding on positive variance is Billy Chattaway. The popular Londoner has been in scintillating form of late and that has resulted in his reputation being bolstered and his online poker ranking being boosted. Chattway now finds himself in seventh place in the UK standings and on course to break into the top 5 if his form continues.

Keeping with the online poker world, there was a massive result for one of the UK's familiar faces, that of Nik Persaud. Persaud started the week by winning the PokerStars Super Tuesday for a huge $108,000 payday for what was one of the biggest scores had by a Brit over the past seven days.

Other big scores went to "Robeebee" who won the 17th event of the Turbo Championship Of Online Poker (TCOOP) for $110,000, to "Maison Close" who came second in the same event for more than $97,000 and to Stephen "woody1234321" Woodhead who took down TCOOP-3 for almost $73,000.

Away from the virtual felt, British players enjoyed success in brick-and-mortar venues. Rapinder Cheema became a UKIPT champion when he won the London Main Event, only his second live tournament played, for £78,825 while the 2015 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) kicked off with Leon Louis bagging the most chips at the end of the first of two starting flights.

Lastly, our UK editor sat down with the management team from the Genting Poker Series (GPS) and chatted about how they are looking to inject some fun back into poker, so be sure to check out that exclusive interview when you have a few minutes to spare.

We'll be back next week with a UK & Ireland focussed round-up of the action, but if you cannot wait that long we suggest you head to the UK & Ireland PokerNews site to ensure you keep up-to-date with all the goings-on surround players from these amazing countries!
