The Online Railbird Report: Blom Week's Biggest Loser; Antonius Misses High Stakes Poker
It was a relatively slow week on both Full Tilt and PokerStars, which doesn't come as much of a surprise considering some of online poker's biggest names traveled to Melbourne, Australia for the 2015 Aussie Millions.
Even so, there was enough online action to keep things interesting. For instance, "JayP-AA" finished as the week's biggest winner after banking $204,576 in 5,490 hands spread across 39 sessions on PokerStars. Other winners included Elior "Crazy Elior" Sion ($128,986 in 38 sessions/5,944 hands), Rami "arbianight" Boukai ($101,773 in 38 sessions/9,934 hands), and Michael "mrw8419" Weisbrod ($92,737 in 7 sessions/1,295 hands).
On the other end of the spectrum Viktor "Isildur1" Blom, who is currently 2015's biggest loser, lost $116,597 in 2,064 hands over 20 sessions on Full Tilt Poker. That amount, which is paltry by his standards, was still enough to make him the week's biggest loser for the second week in a row (he lost $317,812 the week before).
Sion and Polk Book Wins
On Thursday, Jan. 22, the $400/$800 8-Game tables were going strong on PokerStars, and Elior "Crazy Elior" Sion cleaned up by winning $231,200 over the course of 10 hours. Most of that came from playing "Ravenswood13" heads-up, though $59,300 of it came from a late night session against regs like Rami "arbianight" Boukai, Noah "Exclusive" Boeken, Vladimir "GVOZDIKA55" Shchemelev, and Ben "Sauce123" Sulsky.
The day’s second-biggest winner was Doug "WCGRider" Polk, who was actually in Australia for the Aussie Millions. Polk managed to win $62,200 after playing $50/$100 no-limit hold’em on PokerStars against "asianflushie."
'Trueteller' Wins $345,686 in Two Sessions; 'thecortster' Loses The Same in Three
Russian player "Trueteller" managed to win $345,686 on Full Tilt from Jan. 25 to Jan. 26 in just two sessions and 532 hands. Even though "Trueteller" has opted out of long-term tracking, it’s clear from the weekly updates he has experienced a rollercoaster month.
Most of his action was at the high-stakes 2-7 triple draw tables against Cort "thecortster" Kibler-Melby, who by no coincidence was the period's biggest loser after dropping $358,413 in three sessions and 684 hands.
This is a stark contrast to when the duo faced off in the same game in the Jan. 18 to Jan. 21 period when "thecortster" won $245,429 in 1,144 hands and "Trueteller" lost $237,353 in 1,000 hands.
Meanwhile, Rami "Arbianight" Boukai won $197,610 in 10 sessions and 1,722 hands on PokerStars of $500/$1,000 fixed-limit hold'em against fellow high-stakes poker pro Ben "Sauce123" Sulsky.
The heads-up battle saw Boukai win almost $200,000, which led to Sulsky becoming the third biggest loser in this period with total losses of $126,767 in 12 sessions and 1,798 hands. Sulsky mitigated the damage a bit by winning $25,615 in two sessions and 332 on PokerStars, where he plays under "sauce1234".
Michael "mrw8419" Weisbrod rounded out the top three winners from Jan. 25 to Jan. 26 with $101,153 in profit over five sessions and 934 hands. Most of his action was against Ukraine's "LEXER1986" on the $50/$100 pot-limit Omaha tables on PokerStars.
The heads-up match between the duo led to one of the biggest hands of the two-day period. The hand began when Weisbrod ($68,759.50) raised the button to $300 and "LEXER1986" called. The 5♠3♠8♥ flop saw "LEXER1986" check, Weisbrod bet $500, and "LEXER1986" check-raise to $1,400. A call was made and the 10♦ was put out on the turn.
"LEXER1986" led out for $2,548.50, Weisbrod raised to $10,000, and "LEXER1986" called to see the Q♦ river. "LEXER1986" check, Weisbrod bet $23,398, and "LEXER1986" called off his remaining $17,223 with the 5♣5♥3♣Q♥ for a set Unfortunately for him it wasn’t good enough as Weisbrod held the 10♠10♣9♠9♦ to claim the $57,844 pot.
"LEXER1986" was also on the losing end of the biggest hand in this period when he faced off against Cole "cts687" South in pot-limit Omaha on PokerStars. Despite South winning the $62,524.50 hand, he still was unable to grind a profit during this two-day period, losing $66,218 in four sessions and 671 hands. Here’s a look at the hand:
Finally, during that two-day period, Viktor "Isildur1" Blom won $12,242 playing a single session of 152 hands on PokerStars, and $29,211 in seven sessions and 1,052 hands on Full Tilt.
"JayP-AA" Gets His PLO Fix in Wednesday Action
On Wednesday, Jan. 28, "JayP-AA" finished as the day’s second-biggest winner after profiting $89,700 playing pot-limit Omaha on PokerStars. He started off by winning $37,500 from "AckmaJin" in three hours at the $50/$100 tables, and then doubled the stakes to take on the likes of Ola "Odd_Oddsen" Amundsgard, Ilari "Ilari FIN" Sahamies, and Ben "Sauce123" Sulsky, just to name a few.
Here’s a look at three notables hands from those matches.
Hand #1: At a five-handed table, action folded to "JayP-AA" ($32,917.64) on the button and he raised to $440. The small blind folded, and then "AckmaJin" ($24,267.85) three-bet to $1,420. "JayP-AA" called, the flop came down 10♥5♥A♠, and "AckmaJin" continued for $2,200. "JayP-AA" called the bet and then called one of $5,200 on the 7♥ turn.
When the 8♠ completed the board on the river, "AckmaJin" moved all in for $15,447.85 and "JayP-AA" called to create a $48,631 pot. "AckmaJin" tabled the K♥2♥Q♦J♦ for a king-high flush, but it was no good as "JayP-AA" held the nuts with the A♥8♥10♦K♠.
Hand #2: Action was six-handed when Rami "arbianight" Boukai ($5,002.44) raised to $700 from the cutoff and Amundsgard ($18,629.71) three-bet to $2,400 from the button. "JayP-AA" ($31,319.85) then four-bet to $8,100 from the small blind, Boukai called off his stack, and Amundsgard called to see the 10♣4♠Q♠ flop. "JayP-AA" bet $21,397.49 and his Norwegian opponent called off for $10,529.71.
Boukai: J♣9♦8♦7♠
"JayP-AA": K♥K♣6♥2♠
Amundsgard: 9♥9♠8♠7♥
The Q♦ was put out on the turn followed by the 4♥ river, and that meant "JayP-AA" took the $42,461.86 pot with kings and queens.
Hand #3: In a heads-up match, "AckmaJin" ($11,725.40) opened for $300 from the button and then called when "JayP-AA" ($19,587.36) three-bet to $900 from the big. The Q♦10♣Q♠ flop saw "JayP-AA" lead for $1,050, and "AckmaJin" made the call.
"AckmaJin" then called a bet of $2,650.64 on the 2♣ turn, which brought about the A♠ on the river. "JayP-AA" checked, "AckmaJin" moved all in for $7,124.76, and "JayP-AA" called with the Q♣K♠K♦6♣ for trip queens. It was good enough to win the $23,449 pot as "AckmaJin" could only managed two pair with the 10♥2♥6♠4♠.
"FinddaGrind" Weighs in on High-Stakes Cash Games
Nosebleed regular Patrik "FinddaGrind" Antonius was nowhere to be found on the virtual felt this past week, and that’s because he was busy grinding live at the 2015 Aussie Millions. It was there PokerNews' own Sarah Herring caught up with him to get his take on high-stake cash games and poker TV shows.
"What I miss the most is the high-stakes television shows. High Stakes Poker. Poker After Dark. I would love to play for big money and get involved in some big hands," he said. Check out the full video below:
