PokerNews to Live Report WSOP APAC at Crown Melbourne from Oct. 2-18
From Oct. 2-18, the World Series of Poker will head to Australia’s Crown Melbourne for the second WSOP Asia-Pacific, which will feature 10 gold bracelet events. In addition, PokerNews is proud to announce that our Live Reporting Team will be on hand at the biannual event to bring you live updates from each of the tournaments.
With buy-ins ranging from as low as AU$1,100 up to AU$25,000, the series will kick off on Oct. 2 with the AU$1,100 No-Limit Hold'em Accumulator, but the cornerstone tournament of the series will be the AU$10,000 Main Event, which will have two starting days and begin on October 12. Last year, poker superstar Daniel Negreanu won the Main Event for or AU$1,038,825 and his fifth gold bracelet on his way to becoming the 2013 WSOP Player of the Year.
"Bigger and better is the best way to describe the 2014 WSOP Asia-Pacific," said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart. "New events at modest price points like the Dealer's Choice and Terminator No-Limit Hold’em, plus an expansion of overall events and a move to springtime in Melbourne is designed to encourage the North American and European contingent to make this a can’t-miss event. Plus, we have secured the most comprehensive live television coverage in both the U.S. and Australia for both the Main Event and High Roller."
The WSOP APAC, which will also see the culmination of the 2014 WSOP Player of the Year race, will see the AU$10,000 Main Event starting and AU$25,000 High Roller will be carried with a one-hour delay on ESPN television in both Australia and the U.S. on October 17 and 18.
"We are really excited that the WSOP Asia-Pacific is returning to Melbourne," said Gus Seebeck, ESPN’s General Manager of Australia and New Zealand. "It's a fantastic event and ESPN's expanded coverage will bring poker fans around the world even closer to the action."
The series is expected to attract the biggest names in poker, but those who’ve procrastinated in booking their trip to the “Land Down Under” may want to get on the ball as accommodations are going fast.
“Players will receive special accommodation rates for their stay at Crown Melbourne. There are three award-winning hotels to choose from: Crown Towers, Crown Metropol and Crown Promenade,” a Crown official said. “We highly suggest booking accommodation soonest, as there is a large international conference taking at the same time in Melbourne, and accommodation across the city is filling up at a rapid rate."

This provides Crown with significant exposure in Asia, Europe and America, which will in turn form an integral part of Crown’s global marketing strategy to attract additional international visitors to Australia and Crown Melbourne.”
