Hermance Blum Promoted to the WPT Europe General Manager Position
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the World Poker Tour (WPT) announced that Hermance Blum was promoted to the position of General Manager for WPT Europe. Prior to this promotion, Blum was the Marketing and Operations Manager for the WPT. She has been with the WPT since 2011.
Blum has been involved in the poker industry in one shape or form since 2008 when she start her roots with PokerStars in a public relations (PR) role. In 2010, Blum joined partypoker as a marketing and communications consultant.
Recognizing Blum's contribution to the growth of the WPT, her responsibilities have expanded to include all marketing, operational, and commercial aspects of WPT in Europe.
Hiring a female executive is nothing new for the World Poker Tour as prior to Blum's promotion they already had more women executives than men. Blum doesn't feel that being a woman puts her at a disadvantage in a typically male-dominated poker world and being personable, reliable, and personable are some keys to anyone's success.
In a May 2014 interview to PokerNews, Blum said that, "when I got into poker I was 25, and of course it was even more male-dominated then.
"I was working in the IT industry, which was the same — very geeky, too — so lots in common [with poker]. But it's more about your behavior and how you address people. People need to know that you're reliable, present, and switched on."
