2014 World Series of Poker Day 33: Miscikowski, Olson Win Gold; Ladies Reach Final Table
An exciting Saturday saw two more bracelets won at the 2014 World Series of Poker as David Miscikowski (pictured, left) claimed the Event #49: $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em title while Greg Olson (right) grabbed the gold in the Event #52: $10,000 Limit Hold’em Championship.
The day was also highlighted by longtime player and friend to poker Chad Brown being awarded an honorary bracelet in a moving ceremony.
There were six events total in play yesterday, with both the “Monster Stack” and Ladies events moving closer to their finales. Here’s a rundown of all the action from another busy day of poker at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino.
Event #49: $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em
From a starting field of 696 there were just two players — Miscikowski and Norbert Szecsi — left with a shot at the Event #49 bracelet on Saturday. Szecsi was looking to win a second WSOP title after having picked up one last summer in a $1,000 no-limit hold’em event, while Miscikowski sought his first.
They had battled heads-up for three hours on Friday, then for another hour yesterday it was Szesci who had taken the lead and seemed to have the momentum. Then after a break the pair returned, and just two hands later it was all over.
The first was a limped pot in which Miscikowski got a couple of streets of value after having hit a flop, giving him the lead again. Then the next hand saw a Szezci shove and a Miscikowski call, with Szecsi showing 4♥4♣ and Miscikowski 7♠7♥. The board brought no help to Szecsi, and Miscikowski had earned his first WSOP title.

Event #51: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em Monster Stack
They began with 7,864 in Event #51: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em Monster Stack back on Thursday, and after a third long day of play they are now down to just 62. Sean Drake bagged the biggest stack of those remaining last night, with Austin Bursavich close behind him in second position as players move closer to the appropriately monstrous $1,327,083 first prize awaiting the Event #51 winner.
Also collecting above average chips by the end of Day 3 were Joseph McKeehen (in fifth), Jason Duval (ninth), Thayer Rasmussen (11th), and Bolivar Palacios (16th).
Players busting during the latter part of Day 3 included Jason Wheeler (112th, $8,809), Martins Adeniya (103rd, $8,809), Josh Pollock (101st, $8,809), Mustapha Kanit (96th, $10,401), Adam Geyer (92nd, $10,401), John Monnette (89th, $12,418), Danny Wong (85th, $12,418), and Andreas Krause (63rd, $21,758).

Event #52: $10,000 Limit Hold’em Championship
As mentioned, the other bracelet claimed on Saturday was in the $10K LHE Championship where David Olson overcame starting the day in eighth position out of the final 10 to win his first career WSOP bracelet.
After Robert Como hit the rail early in 10th ($23,268), Gabriel Nassif soon followed in ninth, having notched a third final table of the summer. From there players continue to fall, with Bill Chen coming up shy of earning his third career bracelet after being eliminated in sixth.
By the time start-of-day-3 chip leader Greg Debora was knocked out in third, Olson had chipped up to have the lead to begin heads-up play versus Mikail Tulchinskiy. They’d then duel for a couple of hours with the latter closing the gap and taking the lead before Olson claimed it again to chip Tulchinskiy back down.
Then finally a hand arose in which Tulchinskiy committed his last bet before the flop with K♣6♣ versus Olson’s 9♥9♦. The flop came 9♠7♥5♦ to give Olson a set while providing straight hopes for Tulchinskiy. But the turn was the Q♥ and river the 2♠, and Olson had won.

Event #53: $10,000 Ladies No-Limit Hold’em Championship
From the 793 who began the Event #53: $10,000 Ladies No-Limit Hold’em Championship just nine remain, with Mikiyo Aoki carrying a big chip lead to today’s final table after ending Day 2 with 742,000.
Meikat Siu is Aoki’s nearest current challenger with 460,000, while start-of-Day-2 chip leader Patty Landis — Daniel Negreanu’s personal assistant — ended the day in fourth position.
The money bubble burst early on Saturday, with Christina Lindley (80th) and Deanna Dozier (74th) among those min-cashing for $1,777 each. Others knocked out inside of the money yesterday included Cherish Andrews (61st, $2,348), Tatiana Barausova (51st, $2,776), Melanie Weisner (26th, $4,817), and Xuan Liu (11th, $9,078).
A first prize of $153,470 awaits Sunday’s champion.

Event #54: $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Low
From a starting group of 474 there were 152 returners for Saturday’s second day of Event #54: $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Low, and after another day’s worth of play just 20 are left with Jonathan Depa the chip leader followed by Shiva Dudani and Gary Bolden.
Fabrice Soulier (in fourth), Florian Langmann (seventh), and Ted Lawson (10th) are among those in the top half of the counts, while Dylan Wilkerson (13th), Lee Markholt (14th), Eoghan O’Dea (17th), and Paul Volpe (20th) help comprise the lower division heading into Sunday when all will battle for the bracelet and $297,650 first prize.
Coincidentally the top 54 cashed in Event #54, with Tony Cousineau there once again to earn a min-cash of $5,007 (finishing 52nd) — his 67th career WSOP cash. Scott Abrams (49th, $5,007), George Danzer (44th, $6,107), Bart Hanson (41st, $6,107), Dylan Linde (38th, $6,107), Tom Koral (36th, $6,107), Mihails Morozovs (32nd, $7,505), Brett Shaffer (30th, $7,505), Brett Richey (27th, $9,291), and Andy Bloch (25th, $9,291) were also among those profiting from Event #54.

Event #55: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em
Finally Event #55: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em got started on Saturday with a big turnout of 2,396 together building a total prize pool of $3,234,600 with a nice first prize of $582,321 sitting up top.
At the end of Day 1 just 268 made it through, and with only the top 243 getting paid they nearly made it to the cash late Saturday. Michael Malm ended the night with the chip lead with Zo Karim, Erkut Yilmaz, and Aaron Massey occupying the next three spots in the counts. Brandon Cantu (in eighth), George Kapalas (15th), and Davide Suriano (18th) will also be coming back to healthy stacks today.

It will be another six-tournament day at the WSOP on Sunday. The Ladies Event (#53) will play down to a winner for sure, and while the $3K PLO Hi-Low (#54) has 20 players returning, they may also find a champion today as well. The “Monster Stack” (#51) is playing its fourth of four scheduled days, but we’ll see what happens there with 62 players still remaining.
Meanwhile Event #54 (the $1,500 NLHE) moves into its second day while two new events get going. There’s another low buy-in NLHE tourney in Event #56: $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em. But the one everyone will be eyeing today will be another three-day NLHE tourney with a slightly bigger buy-in — Event #57: The $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop.
