Mike Matusow's Book Check-Raising the Devil to Be Made Into a Movie
According to Variety Film Reporter Dave McNary, a biopic on poker pro Mike “The Mouth” Matusow is in the works by 1984 Professional Defense Contractors. The film will be based on Matusow’s autobiography Check-Raising the Devil, a memoir filled with drugs, mental illness, high-stakes poker, and more.
The film will be produced by Adi Shankar, Spencer Silna, and David Uslan. Among 1984’s other film credits include Liam Neeson’s The Grey; Killing Them Softly with Brad Pitt; and The Voices with Ryan Reynolds.
The story comes a week after news broke that Robert Liketic, director of Legally Blonde and 21, had acquired the film rights to James Leighton’s 2013 book Alligator Blood, which tells the story of payment processor king and Black Friday witness Daniel Tzvetkoff.
Both projects are in the early stages of development, meaning no further details are available at this time. Messages left with the producers and production company went unreturned. PokerNews will have more when details become available.
