World Poker Tour Joins Forces with DeepStacks for Global Poker Tour
The World Poker Tour has long been known for creating some of the largest and most prestigious poker tournaments around the globe, but in recent years the tour has focused efforts on creating more affordable buy-ins for the recreational player. In 2010 the WPT created two new tournament circuits — the WPT Regional Series and the WPT National Series — which feature less costly Main Events while offering the opportunity to play with many of the game's most famous players. And last week, the WPT announced a new $560 buy-in event coming to Las Vegas this summer with $1 million guaranteed.
Now, the WPT has teamed up with the DeepStacks Poker Tour to form WPTDeepStacks, which will replace the existing WPT Regional and DeepStacks Poker Tour brands.
"This is one of those rare win-win-wins," said WPT President Adam Pliska. "Combining WPT’s brand with DSPT’s staff and cutting-edge approach is a victory for both brands. We couldn’t be more excited about what this means for poker players everywhere."
The newly-branded tour will offer larger prize pools, bigger fields, and the addition of a seat into the 2015 WPT World Championship as part of the new WPTDeepStacks Player of the Year race.
The first WPTDeepStacks Main Event kicks off next month at the Turlock Poker Room & Casino in California. The $1,000 buy-in event, hosted by DeepStacks Pro Tristan Wade, begins on Friday, May 2 and features two starting flights.
"WPTDeepStacks completely redefines the mid-major tournament market, delivering a world class experience to low and medium buy-in players, at a fraction of the cost," said DSPT President Chris Torina. "WPT is an exceptional brand to align with and this partnership will be an industry game changer."
