Weather Conditions Making Travel to 2014 PCA Extremely Difficult
Freezing temperatures across the country, which follow on the heels of last week’s winter storm, have resulted in the delay and cancelation of thousands of flights on Monday. With the 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) Main Event slated to begin Tuesday, the travel complications have frustrated many poker players looking to make their way to the Bahamas.
According to FlightAware.com, 3,147 flights had been cancelled in the U.S. and 1,821 delayed as of 10:30 a.m. That followed 3,497 cancelled flights and 10,046 delays on Sunday. These disruptions have a rippled effect that has been felt all the way down in Florida, which is a stepping stone for players looking to fly into Nassau. The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport has already cancelled 43 flights and delayed 89 more.
"Conditions may improve or worsen depending on weather conditions in the Midwest and Northeast," said airport spokesman Gregory Meyer.
So how has this impacted the poker world? The Horseshoe Casinos in Hammond and Cleveland have closed their doors. Furthermore, poker players are facing extremely inconvenient travel complications.
2 gate changes, multiple delays and were finally on board a few hours late.
