PokerStars to Award $27 Million in December to Celebrate Holiday Season
On Tuesday, Nov. 26, PokerStars announced the December Festival, which will see $27 million awarded in prize money over the course of the month to celebrate the holiday season.
The massive payouts will be awarded to players across 22 days of special tournament and ring-game promotions, making PokerStars the online site to play on as 2013 comes to a close. The festival will take place from Dec. 1-22, culminating with a jam-packed final three days Dec. 20-22 that will see the first-ever $10 million World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) Challenge Series take place.
The WCOOP Challenge Series will consist of eight events, ranging in buy-ins from $109 all the way up to the $2,100 Main Event. Each tournament has a hefty guarantee attached, and the Main Event boasts one of $3 million. Additionally, each event winner would score an entry to the 2014 WCOOP Main Event, worth $5,200.
Team PokerStars Pro Lex Veldhuis commented on the festival in the press release: “"he festive season is usually a great time to play online poker and this year it’s going to be unmissable. I’ll play all the big Sunday tourneys, hope to win a milestone hand bonus in the ring games, and be going after a WCOOP Challenge Series title — it would be so cool to book my World Championship of Online Poker 2014 Main Event seat now."

Other special promotions running throughout the time period are Double Vision Sunday, $500,000 Golden Sit-n-Gos, Million Dollar Sundays, $500,000 December Mission Week, and $700,000 Milestone Hands.
