Day 3 of the Full Tilt Poker Montreal Main Event began with 84 players, and after less than six hours, only 25 remain. The original plan was to play until there were 27 players, but end-of-day chip leader Vinny Pahuja rained on that parade, recording a double knockout on the last hand of the evening.

Pahuja cold five-bet jammed with the AK after Asadul Shah four-bet all in with the QQ and Stacy Ievac, the three-bettor, snapped it off with the AA. There was over four million chips in the middle when the board rolled out K98KK, giving Pahuja quads and the chip lead to end the day.

“That never happens to me,” Pahuja said after the hand, shaking his head.

The New York native, who spoke with PokerNews during the day, will begin Day 4 with 4.45 million chips.

Victor Ramdin was the other player to bust on the last hand of the night. Ramdin called all in with AxAx in the big blind after a player with KxJx and a player with 9x9x got all of the chips in the middle preflop. The player with pocket nines made a set, but the player with KxJx made a straight, and Ramdin was eliminated.

Also among the players returning for Day 3 on Wednesday will be notables Guillaume Rivet and Michael Linster.

Dozens of players fell during Day 3 action, including Yann Dion, Gavin Smith, and Full Tilt Poker Ambassadors Hana Zoljan, Martins Adeniya, and Dermot Blain.

Dion was unlucky to chop a pot with the AQ against the A8 on a board of QKA9. The river was the K, giving both players aces and kings with a queen kicker, and Dion only received his money back. The next level, he five-bet shoved with AxKx and ran into the pocket aces of Bill Kontaratos. The aces held up, and Dion hit the rail.

Adeniya moved all in with pocket fives, Brian Cohen called with queens, and Maxime Laberge re-shoved with aces. Cohen folded his queens, which is unfortunate because there was a queen on the flop, and Laberge’s hand held up.

After a roller coaster level, Blain found himself all in with the K10 against Kevin Dawe’s QJ. The flop produced both a queen and a jack, and Blain was unable to catch running kings, running tens, or an ace or a nine for a straight.

The 25 survivors, including Francesco Buffone who has 45,000 chips (nine antes), will return on Wednesday at noon. PokerNews will be on hand for features, interviews, and a recap of the day’s action.
