Dan Cates Wins $200K from Tom Dwan in Latest Durrrr Challenge Session
It's been more than three years since Tom "durrrr" Dwan and Daniel "jungleman12" Cates began their “Durrrr Challenge II,” but there seems to be an end in sight after the two played a long session at Full Tilt Poker on Tuesday. Cates and Dwan battled heads-up for more than three hours at the $200/$400 no-limit hold'em tables, and Cates extended his massive lead over "The Professional" by winning $197,600 over 1,485 hands.
With more than 20,000 of the 50,000 hands now in the books, Cates leads by nearly $1.5 million over his high-stakes rival. Under the original terms of the Durrrr Challenge, Dwan would be forced to pay Cates an additional $1.5 million if he was losing after 50,000 hands, and he would receive only $500,000 if he finished ahead. However, according to Cates in a recent interview with PokerListings, the two seem to have agreed to a new deal which could see the challenge finally come to a conclusion.
Cates took an early lead in Tuesday's match, vaulting out to a six-figure advantage within the first 200 hands. In one of the early hands of the day, Cates opened to $800 from the button and Dwan reraised to $2,600 from the big blind. Cates called, and the flop came down 8♥6♠5♥. Dwan bet $3,536 and Cates called, bringing the J♠ on the turn. Dwan checked, Cates bet $8,000, and Dwan moved all in for $29,168. Cates called, having his opponent covered, and the cards were revealed.

Cates flopped a massive draw and turned top pair, leaving Dwan in bad shape heading to the river. The two agreed to run it twice, and the 5♦ on the first run and 4♠ on the second run secured a $70,609 pot for "Jungleman."
Despite the early plunge, Dwan fought back and took a $130,000 lead of his own. In the biggest pot of the session, Dwan raised to $1,040 from the button and Cates reraised to $3,600. Dwan called, and the flop rolled out 6♥4♥4♣. Cates led for $3,200, Dwan raised to $9,800, Cates three-bet to $17,200, and Dwan four-bet to $34,000. Cates responded by moving all in, and Dwan called off his remaining $9,714.

Dwan was well out in front with trip fours, but he needed to fade Cates' ace-high flush draw. The two again agreed to run it twice, and Dwan scooped the entire pot of approximately $95,000 after the 7♣10♦ on the first run and Q♠8♦ on the second run.
While Dwan led for the majority of the match, but Cates surged in the final hour. In another huge pot, Cates min-raised to $800 on the button and Dwan three-bet to $2,600 from the big blind. Cates called to see a A♠J♣7♣ flop, and after Dwan checked, Cates fired $3,600 into the pot. Dwan responded with a check-raise worth $10,200, and Cates called. The 3♣ appeared on the turn and Dwan moved all in for $30,119. Cates called and tabled 9♣6♣ for a flush, well ahead of Dwan's A♦J♥ for top two pair. Cates won both runs on the river to scoop a pot worth $85,838.
