2013 WSOP Europe Day 3: Kramer and Karamalikis Top Event #2 Day 1b Survivors
The 2013 World Series of Poker Europe continued on Sunday in Enghien-les-Bains, France with Day 1b of Event #2: €1,100 No-Limit Hold’em Re-Entry. The overall chip leader entering into Day 2 of the event will be Day 1b survivor and German Killian Kramer, who bagged 102,400 chips according to the WSOP.com Live Updates team. That’s nearly double the amount Niels Herrgodts bagged — he finished Day 1a as the chip leader with 55,000.
Kramer KO’d several players during play on Sunday, including Ben Nicolas in the last level of the night. Nicolas found himself all in and at risk preflop holding 2♣2♥ against the J♠J♦ of Kramer. The German held up as the board rolled out Q♦3♦6♦9♦5♠, and Nicolas was sent to the rail.
Also finishing near the top of the chip counts was Full Tilt Poker ANZPT Tour Ambassador Jonathan Karamalikis. The Aussie forced a player to fold a full house prior to the dinner break, leading out on a board of K♣8♣A♥K♥. His opponent tanked before folding 8♦8♠, shocking Karamalikis.
Karamalikis, who finished runner-up in an event at the World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific, will enter Day 2 with 81,300 chips. Other players who survived the day are Chino Rheem (62,600), and WSOP bracelet holders Scott Clements (40,100) and Barry Greenstein (31,800).
According to the tournament clock, the second flight attracted 295 unique entries. Add that to Day 1a’s field and the 103 re-entries, and you receive a field size of 659, generating a total prize pool of €632,640. The top 72 players will earn a minimum of €1,771, each member of the final table will take away at least €12,134, and the winner will bank €129,700 along with the WSOP gold bracelet.
Among the players who will not be vying for the cash and the gold on Day 2 are WSOP Player of the Year contender Loni Harwood, November Niner Ryan Riess, Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Jeremy Ausmus, Jeff Rossiter, Joe Kuether, Erik Seidel, and Liv Boeree.
Boeree ran AxQx into KxKx, Ivey ran into Wai Kin Yong’s Broadway straight, and Ausmus lost a race with A♥J♠ against 9♣9♦.
The survivors will return on Monday at noon local time for Day 2, while 3 p.m. marks the start of Event #3: €5,300 Mixed-Max No-Limit Hold’em. PokerNews will be on hand for feature pieces and daily recaps of the day’s events.
