Gus Hansen Gaming It Up at the FTP UKIPT Galway Festival
It’s been a busy week for Gus Hansen at the Full Tilt Poker UKIPT Galway Festival. We already told you how he won Event #8 €1,000+€100 UK vs. Ireland Heads-Up Championship, and on Tuesday — just a day before the €2,000 UKIPT High Roller — Hansen was back in the spotlight when he took a stab at the €35+€5 Daily Grind and ultimately finished in second place.
Hansen’s presence in Galway has not gone unnoticed. He’s been signing autographs and taking pictures with fans all week, and it’s safe to say that he is a bit of a celebrity in Ireland, especially after winning the UK vs. Ireland Heads-Up Championship as an honorary Irishman. He’s so beloved that he even accepted the keys to the city from Mayor Padraig Conneely.
Hansen’s celebrity has also allowed him to be the life of the party. More times than not is in the Players’ Lounge playing billiards and backgammon against poker pros and fans alike. According to the Full Tilt Poker Blog, at one point Hansen challenged FTP UKIPT ambassador Sinem Melin to a game of pool. She declined, but the two did form an alliance to play doubles and take on any challengers. During that time Hansen rushed back and forth between the billiards table and the poker tournament he was playing.
Hansen has been quite the “Chatty Kathy” at the poker table. The FTP Blog has managed to capture some “Gus-isms” during the past week. Here are some of our favorite quips:
- “I have no idea what cards I have.”
- “You have a king? How?”
- “I want to resign. Can I resign?”
- “Oh, I don’t know what I’m going to make it.”
- “That was sure a bad bet I made. I can’t believe I did that.”
- “The famous look down to see if I have a diamond.”
- “That’s such a blow. Now I am in a world of pain.”
- “Oh my gawd… shoot me in the head. That makes me sick.”
- “You know what? I don’t know why I let you rob me so bad.”
