The Sunday Briefing: Team PokerStars Pros Back on the Sunday Grind

Sunday Briefing

The PokerStars Sunday tournaments began to revert back to normal with more than a few Team PokerStars Pros in attendance. As the 2013 World Series of Poker comes to a close, many of the pros have left Las Vegas and gotten back on the online grind.

Seven PokerStars Pro were in the PokerStars Sunday Million ($1M Guaranteed) field including Joe Cada, Caio Pessagno, Joao Nunes, Henrique Pinho, Bryan Huange, Lex Veldhuis and Stavros “IDOLLS” Kalfas. All of those players finished short of the money except for Kalfas, who cashed for $1,309 after busting in 96th place.

“Faranius” was the big winner on Sunday topping a field of 6,613 players to collect $150,000. However, due to a three-way deal it was actually third-place finisher “luznypapa” who claimed the top prize of $163,772. "Faranius" began the final table as one of the five short stacks but in less than two hours he was crowned as the Sunday Million champion.

Here’s a look at the PokerStars Sunday Million final table payouts:

7chrispker23$29,097
8Tarzancev$15,871
9bagoch$10,250

“Bagoch” was the first player to go after check-raising “travoltanc” all in on a A99 board. "Travoltanc" had the better hand with A2 against "Bagoch’s" pocket tens. "Bagoch" couldn’t pull off a miracle turn or river and exited in ninth place for $10,250.

“Tarzancev” busted in eighth place collecting $15,871 after getting it in with AK. It was a coin flip for "Tarzancev" against “Luznypapa’s” pocket sixes. "Tarzancev’s" ace-king failed to improve on the eight-high board and was out.

Just two-hands later, "luznypapa" opened for 500,000 from under the gun and “chrispker23” moved all in for his last 2.3 million from the small blind. "Travoltanc" called from the big blind and "luznypapa" called. "Travoltanc" check-folded to "luznypapa’s" all-in shove on the KJ2 flop and "luznypapa" showed AK for top pair. "Chrispker23’s" pocket tens couldn’t make a comeback once "luznypapa" hit trips on the turn. "Chrispker23" was out in seventh place, earning $29,097.

Soon after, “grasdal” was eliminated in sixth place for $42,323 after his A8 failed to survive against "luznypapa’s" pocket sixes. “Avivgigi” followed suit after an open-shove with A9 against "travoltanc’s" pocket fours. The pair held and "avivgigi" was sent to the rail in fifth place for $55,549.

Following the ace-card bustouts was "travoltanc," who open-shoved with A10. "Luznypapa" reshoved with AQ and dominated with the better kicker as the board ran [Ac8s2cKAh]. "Travoltanc" was out in fourth place, earning $72,743. With the final three players left in the field, all three agreed upon a deal that would leave $20,000 on the table. After taking a few hits, "luznypapa" got his last remaining chips in preflop against “przem77” and "Faranius" but didn’t connect on the 65488 board. "Luznypapa" was the chip lead going into the final three, so as part of the deal took home the largest share of the prize pool at $163,772 after being eliminated in third place.

"Przem77" and "Faranius" traded the chip lead several times before one pot determined the outcome. All the money went in preflop after "Faranius" five-bet shoved with pocket jacks. "Przem77" called with AQ, and although he flopped a queen, a jack spiked on the turn to give "Faranius" a set. "Faranius" was awarded $150,000 along with his first Sunday Million title, while runner-up "przem77" earned $142,000.
