2012 PokerStars.net APPT Cebu Day 3: Amit Varma On Top of Final Table

Amit Varma

Amit Varma finished Day 3 of the 2012 PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour Cebu with 1.24 million in chips. He'll be the chip leader going into the final day and has a nice cushion of over 300,000 more than his closest competitor.

Each and every one of the 28 returning players were guaranteed cash on Day 3, but the majority of them had to fall. Unfortunately for Kitty Kuo (23rd), Alvin Cheam (20th), Chris Edgar (19th), Sammy Huang (16th), Bobo Chen (14th) and Carter Gill (13th) things ended a bit shorter than they had hoped.

As play got closer and closer to the final table, the action slowed down. But that didn't last for long as arguably the most exciting hand of the day played out between Jacky Wang and Antoine Amourette. The two got all of the money in preflop with Amourette holding pocket queens against Wang's pocket jacks. The board ran out 10938Q and Wang nailed a straight to double up.

Just a few moments after that hand, Sungsik Bae was eliminated on the final table bubble. Bae was all-in for his last 140,000 holding QJ against Alistair Duff's A8. After the board ran out A957K, Bae was sent to the rail while the other nine players celebrated their final table berth.

Amourette managed to survive with 50,000 after his rumble with Wang, and he will return on Monday with only a few big blinds, and as the table short stack.
